Chronic: If Landry leaves, Joey Dorsey is the Rockets' solution

Yes, Carl Landry did give up a tooth to get the Rockets a playoff win in Utah.

But that doesn't mean the Rockets have to surrender an arm and a leg to keep him.

Yes, Landry was became a valuable contributing member of the rotation during the 22-game winning streak.

But that doesn't mean all is lost if Landry gets an expensive offer and happens to move on after his rookie season.

Yes, the Rockets want to keep Landry in the fold.

But they most definitely made the draft night deal that secured Memphis big man Joey Dorsey with the thought that he was the perfect insurance policy for the situation they now find themselves in.

Give GM Daryl Morey credit. He knew exactly what he was doing and, thus, has not been boxed into a corner by Landry and his agent.

While Landry is active and aggressive on the boards, so, too, is Dorsey. And Dorsey has greater overall length and could be a better defender.

Before Landry suffered the foot injury that sidelined him for a couple of weeks late in the season and slowed him during the stretch run and playoffs, he had a major knee injury that forced him to wear a big brace during his senior season at Purdue.

The Rockets asked Landry to have a further physical examination, perhaps out of genuine concern, perhaps to scare off potential bidders from around the NBA.

Rumors are out there circulating. Up pops one that says Tau Ceramica -- Luis Scola's former Spanish League team -- is willing to offer Landry $14 million for two years.

    Is it true? Who knows?

Would he accept it? Who knows?

If he did, the Rockets already have their answer in Dorsey.

The euro thing is comming out of no where. I know many americans went to euro if they didn't make the nba to play but it was nothing like this last season. Basketball must be the fastest growing sport in the world in terms of popularity.

man this like the third time I have heard this Tau rumor. Can clutch or any of our insiders chime in on whether or not this rumor has legs.

It would kind of make sense that Scola's old team would keep tabs on how he was doing and inadvertently get turned on to Carl. What scares me is that Tau is the kind of club that has the money to make a move like that and they where very interested in getting Scola locked up in a long term deal but before he left, but he wanted no part of it.

It should be very interesting how this plays out.

I e-mailed Fran to ask him about the alleged Tau offer yesterday. As long as nothing is official one has to assume that the Rockets are in good shape.

Dorsey at his peak won't come close to the offensive player Landry was last year.

I'm guessing it's because he's skilled and has very good athleticism (if healthy). That combination is much more rare outside the NBA.

Well, one could hardly blame Carl for jumping at $7 million a year. You couldn't blame the Rockets for saying adios, either. The Spanish team must have a lot of cash to throw around if this is true. A second round pick with knee problems is not the most enticing of options at that amount.

man... i really do not want to see landry go :(

we've seen what landry can do, and i'm not so sure dorsey can do the same.

i hope his knees are fine and the rockets do whatever it takes to keep him.

Dorsey can do some things better than Landry especially when it comes to rebounding, but he is only part of the solution because he can't bring Carl's scoring. Yes,he can dunk but it will be hard to replace the 8.1 points that Landry brings in such a short period of time off the bench even if we take in the factor that opposing teams will have a better idea of how to defend him in his 2nd year.

Carl also has the upside to keep on improving, especially with his outside shot.
However, there is no reason for the Rockets to end up overpaying for Landry's services.

If Carl does get an offer he has to fairly careful if he ultimately wants to stay.

"The ole' hey, they're going 5.9 million."

"Then goodbye." Scenario is possible. He's just got to come back and say, "What's the best you can do so I can make a good decision?"

I'm sorry, but repeatedly using 'Chronic' in your thread titles should be grounds for demotion.

Carl did show some flashes of a nice mid-range game. That's something Dorsey will never have and has no desire to have.

the euro is stronger than the dollar now. euro teams can offer more us $ now. players like landry can get that type of money because they would be stars playing with euro peons.
