As long as his starting salary is below Scola's, I'm OK with it. It would be absolutely crazy to pay the guy more than your starter, who has an excellent contract (for the Rockets) and seems to like playing here. Want to make our starting 4 unhappy? Sign this kid to a contract larger than his. I'd as soon let Landry walk.
We aren't losing Landry. Morey has stated that time and time again that he will pay what the market bares. In fairness to your question, maybe Morey will pay market, because he has asked himself the very same question. If Landry gets more that half, I'll be stunned. He isn't worth it, until he returns to winning streak form again, which he hasn't proven...and no scope will prove that, either, imo.
How unusual would it be to have both Scola and Hermann on the Rockets when they were both part of the 2004 Gold Medal Argentine National Team? And a short drive down I-10 are two more members in Manu and Fabricio.
Really? I think Landry's likely to get a contract to either match Scola's or exceed it. And I don't see that as a big deal (although far from optimal), but as you know I'm a big Scola fan and I'm hoping that Scola has such a great year that we renegotiate his deal next year. It's quite possible. But I can't see going into this season without Landry because I don't see anyone out there now I'd rather have. If we do overpay him it could also be a 1 year deal and I could see that worlking out for both sides. So throw down, you muckraker. I'm ready.
LOL, I don't want to cover you in muck , but the guy hasn't shown us enough to warrant that kind of contract, IMO. He has a questionable knee. He was a high second round pick, but still a second round pick, and you're willing to pay him more than Scola? How much more? And you're willing to do that even if it means ticking off Luis, a Euro star of the first order, when the European teams are out trying to raid NBA teams of their talent? I don't think that's a good idea. I certainly want Landry back, but we need to be reasonable to some degree. That's reasonable?
Well, I just don't see letting Landry walk this year as an option and I have to admit that overpaying the seems like the lesser evil. Now, if he wants the MLE for even two years - no way, but I just don't think that's in the scope of reality. So as we continue to argue about nothing, Clutch's earlier post reminded me of some of my early summer posts stating I believe Les is going to demand that more gets done this offseason than just crossing our fingers for health. I believe Landry will play some 3 this year and Battier has been major trade-bait and we just aren't getting good enough offers yet. I do think we're stuck unless Les just demands something else happens before the season starts. He just may. In that case we've got to sign Landry before anything else can happen. That's all I can even think to argue about, we know all that this Baker bs is moot because Morey's going to sign Landry anyway.
Landry at the most should get 50% of the MLE......don't get me wrong he's a good player but he's bot MLE good.
Apologies if this has already been mentioned and I missed it... Every dollar of the MLE that Landry gets is less $ that is available to sign Joey Dorsey. IOW, full MLE Landry = goodbye Dorsey.
Overall, you have to weight years and amount. So it isn't a questions of full MLE or not. Of course a 5 year full MLE (over 30 mil) is insane. I would do option 2, say in the 4 mil range, for 1 year (he would still be restricted off that contract), or 2 years with a TEAM option. I would do option 3 if we guaranteed two or more years. As years 2, 3 or 4 we guaranteed we should progressively move from 3ish to 2ish mil. Not true at all. 1) GS had to overpay Turiaf so the Lakers' wouldn't match. 2) Landry has a .5 a good professional basketball season. 3) Turiaf is also less than a year older. 4) Turiaf can also play back-up center, and their a premiums of guys who can do this. I agree with this. A contract more than Scola's (3 years 10-11 mil) is too much. Somewhere between Scola and Hayes (4/about 8 mil) years and amount per year is more than fair and best for both sides.
Not the case. Dorsey would run with a 2 year fully guaranteed min deal. That is typically the best case scenario for any non 1st round pick rookie (outside of players with big Euro offers or contracts that have to be bought out of).
