I don't care if he is seen as weak or strong... I would just love to see him take the ball to the basket more with the mindset to attempt to finish and convert on 3 point plays.
i think everyone does. hopefully he can go to the line as much as he does in the playoffs (most likely not). but just 2 yrs ago, he went to the line 7 times a game. last yr of 5 was not very good. but he does do that in the playoffs (9 avg last yr ft attempts). but he also has to go back to making them at a 75-80% clip. <60% is just horrible.
82 games is a lot of games I don't expect him to be D. Wade every night but look to attack more every game. Drive and dish then another play drive hard to the basket and score then cut to the basket when someone else has the ball for an alley... just have that will and positive body control that shows confidence because a lot of times the rest of the players on the team comes and goes as Tracy comes and goes... Yao included.
I dont know about anyone else, but coasting in the regular season from a star isn't a bad thing. Do you want the guy to go all out and get injured even more? As long as he can make plays every so often and get the rest of the team involved, I'm fine. Bring your A game in the playoffs, coast during the regular season.
Isn't there some kind of rule where a team can waive one person a year from the salary books. they'd still have to pay them but that salary wouldn't go on towards the cap? maybe the rockets should just waive him and seek out someone like ryan bowen or i.b.free.
Since he has been a Rocket he has never been 100 % healthy !! He's still been pretty damn good though !!!!!!!!!
He has never been "100%," nor is there such a thing for any professional athlete. Tmac, especially, have been injury prone more so than most superstars. But 95% of his injuries are due to a problem that he may have been born with and something that is just unfortunate and totally out of his control. The fact that he has been able to do so well on a chronically bad back is a testament to his talent and perseverence. This season was a perfect example of how much he was willing to sacrifice for the team, risking going back to play early after an injury , and as we know now in hindsight, he was playing a bad knee and shoulder for the latter half of the season and the playoffs. I myself will admit that I was a bit surprised that Tmac was able to play on an injury and not complain about it, or make excuses about it. Although I still find Tmac's signature grinces funny-but that still does not imply "coasting" people. I don't think that people need to worry about Tmac so much, or blame it all on him, since Yao hasn't exactly been Mr. Healthy the last couple of seasons. The pair haven't played more than 70 games together. Having Rafer out during the first two games of the playoffs didn't help us either, and even for all the baggage that Rafer gets (and well deserved too), his absence exposed our lack of depth in our froncourt position(s), despite having an overload at that position. I can't stress this enough, and I'm pretty sure this has become a CF cliche now, but we seriously need a legitimate, and consistent 3rd scorer and/or a better starting point guard (ie bye bye Rafer). Having either one component would greatly negate some of our problems. And as for people saying he coasts during the playoffs, that is just ridiculous. I know its an old cliche and has been hacked as a standard counterargument for that, but ITS A TEAM GAME people! The only issue I have with Tmac is that he does not put his all into going to the line, even though I know he is trying to do everything-ie scoring and getting everyone involved at the same time (without Yao). So many times I just feel that he doesn't WANT to take over the game, but rather make it easier on the whole team to win, which is a good thing and a bad thing, proven by last year's playoffs when he was getting tons of assists and contrastingly, game 7 this year, when he went off for 40. I'm not saying he's mentally weak, but I definitely think that is the only thing separating him from the elites.
i don't think anyone claims he coasts in the playoffs; he's been our best playoff performer ever since he's been here (and usually a top 5 player in the playoffs). people have problems with him when he coasts during reg. season games (but it does'nt affect our win total as seen by the 52+ wins with tons of injuries)
Well then....I have to agree, hesitantly, that he does tend to coast during the reg. season, especially during his slumps. However, the beginning of the season (pre-wrist injury) proved that he can play with some heart, and (surprise!), he actually became somewhat dominant again. But this past year has been one of the most disappointing and heartbreaking years since the Tmac-Yao era, what with Tmac's consistent inconsistency and Yao's injury. So it would be easy to tag the "coasting" thing on him.
Hes not coasting. He is preserving his body so he can give it his all in the playoffs. His body just can't handle 82 games + playoffs of 110%. His body just plain breaks down. But when the game is on the line, or its the playoffs he is a top 3 player in the league, hands down. With his situation, this is literally the smartest approach to playing. Lay off the guy already.
We are in need of another 2/3 to relieve his offensive load. I hope Greene will be able to give some valuable minutes this year.
He is coasting. He's not practicing FTs like he should. He's not practicing jumpers like he should. His all around game has deteriorated big time.
Yeah but even T-Mac at 50% is a top 10-15 player in the league. If he plays anywhere near how he did in 2006-2007 then I'll be thrilled. I'm not sure he's as athletic as he was in his first season here even at 100% but his athleticism is still very impressive for his size.
If he does that night in and night out we won't have him for the playoffs. People keep saying they want Tracy to attack the basket more, but I don't thnk they understand its his body that won't hold up.
