Wow...Obama came off cocky, confused and crazy. McCain was wonderful- honest, humble and smart.

Obama simply is not qualified to lead

obama did come off as cocky, but he did come across a good point. why the hell are we in iraq anyway, we shouldve been somewhere else or not there at all.

and mcCain did not come off as smart. in fact he just reminds me more of bush with his stupid lil smirk

I don't think Obama sounded cocky, confused or crazy. I'm still not voting for him though.

Has anyone ever seen that movie 'weekend at bernies?'

I swear McCain died a couple of months ago and the GOP is just carrying his body around on the campaign trail.

Why can't he just man up and admit the Surge has worked? Is it that hard? Heck, he's flip flopped on other aspects of the war, why not one more?

It ought to tell you something when a candidate has to cling to delusions of the troops not succeeding. Country first? Don't think so...

The heat is really on the McCain "campaign" - Obama's European/MidEast Adventure has basically been a victory lap, where he has been hailed as a conquering hero.

Meanwhile Johnny "experience" is busy confusing sunnis and shiites and either being mistaken or lying about the ol "surge' and then grousing angrily as Obamadulation is displayed by adoring crowds.

Hence the fascinatation with pretending to pick a VP to steal thunder - which nobody cares about. Sucks to be you, a rich old white guy.

Obama didn't sound arrogant, cocky or confused at all. What a stupid thing to say! I'll tell you who is arrogant, cocky and confused: The thread starter.

Regarding the surge, I think McCain is right and Obama is wrong. But too bad it didn't happen about 24 months sooner. And too bad we invaded Iraq to start with or Afghanistan wouldn't be crumbling into pieces before our very eyes.

Does Barack still think they speak Arabic in Afghanistan? Hilarious naivete and just pure inexperience/ignorance on display, folks.

Look, Obama formed his policy position without even consulting with General Patraeus. He did it before he even bothered to go to Iraq. He's not going there to gather information to make an informed decision. He's going there to take some hella kewl photos with his sunglasses on! The fact that all the news anchors have followed him over there, after not following McCain on any of his EIGHT visits, just proves that the media is in the tank for him. The fact that he won't admit the troops have succeeded in the Surge is just reflective of his desire to prioritize his candidacy over winning the war.

Obama failed in his oversight over Afghanistan by not hosting a single oversight hearing. He's had ONE chance to lead on the War, and he failed it. Didn't lift a finger! It wasn't until public pressure mounted that he even agreed to go to Iraq/Afghanistan. That's just sad.

The guy is just in over his head.

"Why do you believe Iraq is the central front on the war on terror?"
"...that's what Osama Bin Laden said..."

Way to shape your military strategies around what the enemy says. Because really, Osama trying to help us.

I think Obama was right about not invading Iraq, but it's clear that Patreus has made a difference and Obama was wrong about the surge. Of course it's a sticky point for Obama - but let's face it - we're all happy it worked out.

Now, they are both effectively saying the same policy and I can't tell the difference in how they will handle things going forward. So in terms of policy, I say it's a tie.

I think Obama came across as cool and confident, a practical thinker. And he seems to be real in his answers but clearly not going to admit he's wrong which he can't do.

McCain wasn't so honest, because he says Obama denies the work of our troops, but that's not what Obama said, he said of course our troops made a difference - so where is McCain getting that from? McCain is on the offensive, but again, he is forced to be - and I don't think he has a clear attack. He's just not convincing - there's a bit of desperation in his tone.

Can you actually articulate what the realistic difference would be between the two?

McCain's still outflipflopping Obama by about a 5-1 margin.

By the way, I love flipflopping- I did one just the other day.

And yet, McCain still has a lot more flipflopping to do if he wants to be in line with the views of the public.
