Just venting really.. it's getting hot in the old ranch style here. Our 1979 original A/C unit just finally gave up the fan motor... Repairman won't be here until Friday. Yuck. Time for some movies... at the theater! I guess nearly 30 years for an A/C in Texas is pretty good performance anyway, right? Stay cool.
My A/C went out last month. The temperature was in the 90s and it was seriously uncomfortable. I had to wait until the next Tuesday before it was replaced. I got a more energy efficient model and luckily it is saving me big time on the energy bill.
Back in the 90's, I lived in a mid-rise apt building in Houston (I think it was called The Atrium). The A/C went out for a whole week in the middle of the summer. And to top it off, I lived on the damn 6th floor. The management decided to bring in some big old floor fans, and brought in cots for everyone to sleep in the lobby area - basically turning it into the Superdome. This was not an option for me, as there were some unsavory people living there to say the least (This was near Chimney Rock and Westpark). I'd probably get my keys and wallet stolen while I slept. I tried to stick it out for a night in my place, but it was impossible. It was an oven in there. I had nowhere to go, except to stay at my roommate's friend, "Crackhead Chris's" house - which was littered with dirty clothes, cat droppings, and fast food containers and it was way the hell out in Alief somewhere. I stayed there for a week - 1/2 out of 5 stars. When I came back, the whole lobby STUNK! I guess a bunch of sweaty people crashing on cots for a week will to do that. The only good thing, was that I got a free 2 weeks of rent out of it...
Wow, sorry to hear that dude. I had to do without AC for most of a month in the summer a couple years back...was hell.
I was out in Vegas last month and the guy I stayed with had his A/C go out right before I got there. It had been out, they came and fixed it,and then it crapped out again. I only spent one night there but it was 115 degrees. Totally miserable.
sometimes if you manually give the fan a push it will start back up temporarily. but probably not for long.
Hey I got a friend of mine that does residential A/C(He's licensed) and he may be a ble to get to you tomorrow, I'll pm you his info if you'd like. Let me know.
My apartment complex started billing us for gas this year. The lease for my first floor 1 bedroom apartment in Omaha says $850, but now my bank statement says $1,000; so I've been hitting the electric fans pretty hard post-Memorial Day.
I remember the AC going out in the middle of one August night at my grandmother's. We got a new one the next day. There are certain things that you just find a way to get sorted out. Air conditioning in Houston is one of them. I was making phone calls at 7:30am the day after it went out.
My car AC went out recently and it was miserable. You get into a hot car after work and the ride home cooks you and as many of you know rolling down the windows don't help much when the breeze is 90 plus degrees. Anyways took it to the mechanic and he charged it up with freon and it's back to blowing nice and cold.
I feel your pain. I just ended a 1 year lease at a house in which we did not have A/C......... wait for it......... FOR 5 MONTHS!! It was the MOST reediculous thing I have ever been through in my life. My idiot landlady did not believe that 19 years old was a good run for an A/C unit. I ended up involving lawyers and threatening a lawsuit in order to have it fixed. It was out b/t October to early March. Coulda been worse though.... ya know. Ya just have to get through it and not sweat it.
My A/C went out as well I've gotten a few estimates for a 4 ton 13 seer unit installed: Lennox $1850.00 Trane $3500.00 Ruud $2000.00 I'm leaning towards getting the Lennox or maybe the Ruud any suggestions.
