Nah, but if I see a Vandy guy #1 on a top prospects list.. I have to comment! Hopefully this year's Astros draft produces some good prospects.
The weakness of the upper levels of the farm system (which is most pronounced) is directly the responsibility of Hunsicker's last few drafts. I'm not trying to say he was a bad GM, but sometimes Astros fans lose sight of his mistakes in their effort to try and find one singular scapegoat (Purpura).
The astros have drafted poorly for the last ten years. The only exceptions were in Hunsicker's last two years. His last draft in 2004 was the best draft the astros have had in the last decade. Pence, Zobrist, Patton, Parraz, towles, etc. all without having a first round pick. That's a pretty good draft. The 2003 draft wasn't a good, but it netted Hirsh who was probably the team 2nd best prospect the last 6-7 years. 5 years is enough time for most draft picks to graduate or fail (a college draft pick from 2004 would be 25-26 now-too old to be a real prospect). The astros aside from 04 haven't drafted well in about a decade, but most of the problems with the current stock of minor leaguers can be tracked back to the last 3 drafts and the trading away of prospects in the last year or two.
