Has anyone on this board attended or knows anyone that has attended BCM? My application is under review at the moment for 2009, but I want to learn more about the school from its almuni. What were your favorite aspects of BCM?

looking at it as a prospect, i think the book stated that tuition is 25k a year? thats far cheaper than most schools in the US. plus the rockets are there, more than enough reason for me to attend.

Baylor is one of the toughest and thus most prestigious medical schools in the nation. People who get in there are really special in terms of overall picture, not just grades. What was your school GPA and MCAT score, if you don't mind me asking?

Be sure to treat everyone nicely -- you never know when the one person you meet that day could affect the rest of your medical career, positively or otherwise.

My Dad went there in the 1960s, but it's probably changed a bit since then.

My science GPA is a 3.81, cumulative is a 3.84 and my MCAT was a 12/11/11, since I don't mind you asking.

Wow. Congrats. That's a real solid score. Isn't the average matriculant to BCM and UTSW right around the 33-34 mark?

Anyways, I'm no help to this thread. But I'm currently studying for the MCAT which I plan to take this fall. How long did you study for the MCAT Azadre?

I met a guy that went there. He had a 4.0 from Stanford in biomedical engineering, and he was planning to get a joint MD/PhD from BCM and Rice.

Like a previous poster said, it's very prestigious. Also, it is not affiliated with Baylor University in Waco, FYI.

I'd do some research into the clusterf*** of Methodist / Hermann / Baylor in recent years, my impression is that it has affected the clinical training to some degree - less variety in patients during the clinical years. But I am not sure. Where else are you applying?

I have friends who have become terrific doctors who trained at Baylor, good luck.

That describes the process thus far.

As for my MCAT studying habits, I honestly only studied how lenses function, the kidney functions, and Bernoulli's equation. I felt confident in my abilities in the other subjects covered.

All I know is they don't have much of a sex ed program. A couple who were a year ahead of me at Rice and went on to Baylor got married the summer before they started their residencies. He was going into neurosurgery. She was going to be an OBGYN. They got pregnant on the honeymoon 'cause they couldn't work a condom. (Both were virgins.) I guess prophylactics are more rocket science than brain surgery. So yeah, just thought I'd throw that out there...

I have like 15 friends from my major in college (biomedical engineering) that got accepted to BCM. They're all MS-III's now. I got a few friends in the 2011 and 2012 classes.

From what I know is that you can take USMLE Step 1 anytime during your 3rd year, where most other schools take it right after their 2nd year (I took mine last month..hardest test I've ever taken, but people above me says that the board exams keep getting worse).

Overall it's the best and brightest students in Texas. Med school isn't really a happy place because of the courseload, but from my observation the Baylor kids seem generally happier than the students at Southwestern.

Those are very competitive stats. I would just search on StudentDoctor.net forums or just email current BCM members from a search on Facebook. They might be able to reply, since it is summer time and no course load.

I have been on SDN more than CF.net since the first round of the playoffs :D. I just wanted to see if I could get the opinion of someone who posts here.

Actually the baylor kids start next week. They start REAL early so they can finish basic sci in 1.5 years.

But yeah SDN is the bomb. I check that forum just as much as CF
