Why would the Mavs give up a key piece like Howard for a one year rental? I could understand if Artest had more years on his deal....

It is all about the one year contract, Cuban is probably still reeling from the Kidd trade, and is now back to his....trash for treasure ways.

I agree Dirk should be moved but it sounds like that isn't happening. Avery Johnson getting canned shows who Cuban is loyal to. Moving Josh Howard is the second best idea and to get Artest would certainly give the Mavs more talent.

Josh Howard will have a bounce back year. I don't care for him much but he can ball.

Artest is good, possibly better than Howard. Howard has way more value though, he's a better teammate, he's not crazy, and he's younger. I'm surprised someone finally had the nads to call out Dirk. He's waaay overrated. Him winning the mvp was a joke, he plays no D, he's soft as hell and he has no post game. They've had success because his shooting creates a huge mismatch, it just took a while for people to figure out you can beat them if you throw a 3 man on him.

josh howard is the mavs best player period. he's waaay underrated. mavs would be stupid to trade him, unless they get a superstar in return.

they need to get rid of dirk while they can.

I would get rid of Howard for Artest in a heartbeat. Ever since Howard got his money contract he became a horrible team player. He used to be known for doing the little things like diving for loose balls, getting steals and key boards and then hitting big shots. Now he just ruins the flow of the offense when he's in the game and does nothing but dribble around a lot and jack up cross over pull up j's. He also used to be a decent defender and he quit that role

Add on top of that that Artest is better than Howard. They're about equal offensively I think with Artest getting a slight edge and Artest is hands down the better defender.

On top of that they're the SAME AGE! I didn't realize that til a couple days ago. Artest is only 6 months older than JHO

I think Artest's stock is much higher with fans than actual NBA teams. Fans don't have to worry about all the off-court distractions nearly as much.

And what has Artest won? At least Dallas has made it to 1 NBA finals (which they should have won). Artest is overrated on this board, never makes an all-star squad, has questionable shot selection, lacks team focus and is a perennial distraction. Don't blame the Mavs for turning this down, questionable move trading a guy with the talent of Howard for a possible 1 year rental.

It appears if they can agree on a contract extension with Artrest the deal might be on.

Rudy T once said that Artest projected as the #1 pick; but after his psychological profile he came on par with a serial killer personality. The man has some serious mental problems.

That is why Artest wasn't drafted as high as he could have.

Artest is a very good basketball player. He is good enough to be a franchise cornerstone type player.
