yes it was that good. it was on so many levels a real war experience. I have never seen so many people crying after a film. AMAZING!! ok im out, maybe more later PEACE
I've heard the opposite. The previews looks so lame and cliched. And don't get me started about Gibson's fake southern accent. os
No more war movies for me. Im sick and tired of war movies coming out every 2 weeks, they are all the same ****.
I'm with Old School on this. I doubt it could top Black Hawk Down, let alone all the other good war movies of the past.
Kelly's Heroes is the best. Followed by.... Saving Private Ryan The longest Day Patton Flying Tigers The Battle of Britain Braveheart There are just too many to name. DaDakota
I always liked Full Metal Jacket, and yes I thought that the last half of the movie was not bad but of course not as good as the first half. However, I am partial to Kubrick films. I just love some of the quotes in that movie including this one: HARTMAN: Did your parents have any children that lived? PYLE: Sir, yes, sir! HARTMAN: I'll bet they regret that! You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece! What's your name, fatbody? PYLE: Sir, Leonard Lawrence, sir! HARTMAN: Lawrence? Lawrence, what, of Arabia? PYLE: Sir, no, sir! HARTMAN: That name sounds like royalty! Are you royalty? PYLE: Sir, no, sir! HARTMAN: Do you suck di**s? PYLE: Sir, no, sir! HARTMAN: Bullsh!t! I'll bet you could suck a golf ball through a garden hose! PYLE: Sir, no, sir! HARTMAN: I don't like the name Lawrence! Only f***ots and sailors are called Lawrence! From now on you're Gomer Pyle! PYLE: Sir, yes, sir!
For what its worth, I saw an interview with Hal Moore and Joe Galloway (the authors of the book on which it is based) and they both said it was the best representation of the vietnamwar they had ever seen. They would know, they were there. Moore said he refused numerous offers to make the film over the past 15 years because he was worried about the "hollywood" effect, but that he was very happy with the result of this movie. As for the cliche's - the recurrent theme in the book, and the start of the Vietnam war in fact, was "leave no man behind, dead or alive", a belief that was carried through to the more recent BlackHawk Down. Excellent book, and can't wait to see the movie.
Best war movie? "I've seen the horrors, horrors that you've seen. But you have no right to call me a murderer, you have a right to kill me, you have a right to do that, but you have no right to judge me."
Apoc. Now is also worthy of #1 status, imo.I just watched the redux a few weeks back,awesome....and definitely the best to watch with the stereo cranking. A lot of good movies mentioned.
of all you people here that absolutely discounted this film as bunk, I ask you. have you seen this film. No none of you have. you all said, i heard it stunk , or i thought the previews were bad. well that is plain ignorance. that is the kind of ignorance that runs rampant on these boards, but it is ignorance just the same. I am telling all of you that this is a great film. it is a great film about love of a family. about love of your men at arms. it brings ti life the struggles of Vietnam in a way that made men cry. this movie is intense. extremely intense!! I am a student of History. I studied all the great wars when I was in collage. I have always greatly enjoyed war movies. I am not a war monger. i am infact a peacefull man, but i do love the stories contained in war. I have seen most every war movie made (most likely missed one or two). Hell I own alot of them on DVD. There are plenty of war movies I did not like. among them were "A thin red line" and "Pearl harbour" to name a few recent ones. Breavheart is my favorite movie. Saving private ryan is anothre great, as is Platoon. I also love the classics as the longest day is likely my favorite of em all(if it was re-made with our modern special effects there would be no question). Band of brothers is BY FAR the best tv stuff I have ever seen, and if it were concidered a movie it would blow away Private ryan and all its contemperaries. and Black hawk down was a damn good film, so if you like that film, this is better. this film has better character development. this is also a true story. if you like war movies at all, go see this movie. if you or a friend or relative was in Vietnam, go see this movie. if you cant handle intense(emotional, or visual) films, DONT go see this movie. I am going to buy it, and I will also go see it again in the theaters. its just that good. if you are still in the mood to say you heard it stunk(likely from some dumb "critic"). well thats fine. I come from the school of "experience first praise(bash) second" PEACE
