Since moving to Los Angeles, I have only seen three Rockets games on TV. Here, Lakers are doing so much better than last year PURELY because Phil Jackson and his team oriented offense. Everyone is playing better, from Shaq to Horry. And even with so many talents, Phil still does not not Run isolation plays like that Rudy does. Houston is condemed to have to watch boring one on one basketball for another 4-5 years. Coaching Counts. Rudy is a lousy coach. To prove a point, you can just look at Blazers. With so many talents, they play so badly. Because their best option is one on one plays also. So I have compiled a list of coach I think are grossly over rated. Rudy T Mike Dunlavey Lenny Wilkens Rick Patino Del Harris [This message has been edited by Caveman (edited March 09, 2000).]
Caveman, It is better to be quiet and let everyone think you are a fool, rather then open your mouth and remove all doubt. DaDakota
Alright CAvEmAn!!!!!! Ahhhh, the good ol Rudy bashing ... how I've missed the good ol days of reading your never ending anti-Rudy posts vs. never ending pro-Rudy posts. uh - oh. I feel a 100 post thread coming, yaaaaay! To give pro Rudy supporters more to get angry about, how about you answer this question Caveman : What redeeming qualities does Rudy possess as a coach? oh yeah, and Rudy sux! ------------------ "Whooaa." - Ted
DaDakota - ouch! How are Del Harris and Chris Wilkens overrated? Harris does not even have a good job. Chris Wilkens? Pitino is being ridiculed as a pro coach. He is only considered a good college coach. Horry: 5.6 ppg 4.8 rpg yeah, that is much better than when Rudy was coaching him. I know - Horry has to share with Shaq, Rice, and Kobe. They are much better than Hakeem, Drexler, Cassell, Thorpe, Max, Elie, and Smith were in 94 - 95
Quack. All it took was to see the name....quack....and the topic....quack quack....to figure Rudy T was in the list. No rocket science, there -- quack. Hey Cavey, quack, weren't you a Jailblazer fan quack before moving to LA? Quack quack.
Anybody here still P!ssed at wilkens for not playing hakeem in the olympics ? I thought that was a disgrace. I believe hakeem had played well during the exhibition round, not that that counts for anything. ------------------ "Don't they get cable in Canada ?" Keith olbermann, after watching hakeem block terry catledge's shot 5 times.
Phil Jackson is the most overrated coach ever. Put him on the clippers bench, then we will see how good he really is. Rudy could turn that clipper team around with one draft. 'nuff said ------------------ I took a course in speed waiting. Now I can wait an hour in only ten minutes- Steven Wright
Hey CaveMan, Actually the rockets play as much or more team orientated defense than the Lakers, you are just stuck out there not being able to see it. If you got to see all of the beautifully executed offensive attacks the Rocks have done lately with high speed running and passing, you would wish that you had never moved to La. The fact is that Shaq makes La good. Without Shaq, even with Phil Jackson, La would kind of SUCK. So next time you feel like saying a team or coach is bad, at least don't admit to only seeing 3 out of 60 games. OK , cool guy? Don't forget to follow the bandwagons.
hmmmm, and who would u replace Ruddy with LHutz? I'm free, and I'm sure heypard could draw up some plays in flash for me ... Coach Crisco, now you're cookin baby! ------------------ "Whooaa." - Ted
This season.. Houston is 2-1 vs. LA.. there ya go. =) take that Phil!, Rudy has your number. =) oh..and dun gimmee that bull**** about the lakers not having shaq or kobe..whatever... if he's such a good coach..he'd do the TEAM work.
actually, Houston is 2-2 against La, but Hou was minus Charles for 3 of those games, and LA minus Shaq for 1. p
What coach has won a championship and then watched the same team go into the lottery, stayed and rebuilt that team, and lead them to another championship? Will Rudy be the first?? Hard to believe with all the talented coaches out there to hire. Some would say to bail out when the talent goes down and gets older and starts having injuries. Find another team with talent so as not to hurt your coaching stats. [This message has been edited by E.J. Tucker (edited March 09, 2000).]
Neanderthal: You point out in this post "boring one-on-one play" as the line between a good coach and a bad coach. Then, you go on to put Rick Pitino in your list of bad coaches....(?) Judging from your definition, Rick Pitino is a bad coach because his offense is centered around one-on-one play. Sorry pal, watch a Celts game every now and then. Rick Pitino is an ex-College coach and he runs a structured offense with a shopping list full of plays (like they have to run in college.) Judging from the fact that you live in LA, and the Celts aren't on National TV, I would say you are just judging Pitino by his club's record, rather than sticking to your initial definition point (use of repetitive play). I would say that would be contradicting yourself. You also say... How the hell are you supposed to make a judgement on the Rockets offense when you have only seen 3 of their recent games?!?!?!? Rudy is a good coach, but anyone who believes Jackson sucks as a coach is probably a lot like what he/she is saying Caveman is. I am pretty sure I saw "sucks" after Jackson somewhere in the thread, I think it may have been edited. I know Caveman's initial post is obviously meant to get a reaction, just calling it like I see it [This message has been edited by sir scarvajal (edited March 09, 2000).]
