55 wins with 2 rookies in the most competitive conference in the history of the game? ..and still gets criticized for being a loser? Except the driving to the hoop more part i agree with that
sorry to reply to this so late
The post was about Most Criticized Rocket...
and that goes to Steve Francis, doesn't matter if he's liked or not, you can go back to my original post where I said that we in the city love him. Especially those of us who were a bit younger at the time when he took over...
Alot of the things talked about Francis didn't even relate to on the court...
*cough*superbowl*cough*
Steve image and attitude was great until JVG came aboard and wanted to micromanage every play, basically putting Steve in shackles
i agree with this. i think when JVG came in he tried to make yao the number 1 guy when he clearly was not ready. that team should have still been steve's team. it seems he wanted to make steve into charlie ward or something when he was much too talented for that. hell i still don't know if yao can be a #1 guy on a team, even though he is a great player.
If Steve Francis left the team before JVG became our coach....he would STILL have been more criticized than TMac, and by a huge margin!
I agree with this statement to an extent...
His image still wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't his fault, or just him. It was because of the whole "new wave" of NBA players. The aftermath of players like Allen Iverson coming into the NBA.
But yes, Steve himself did nothing wrong off the court before JVG, who was indeed a control freak...
RR & pgab: diff cast, yes. diff rules, too. 2 yrs prior, you could do a complete iso and steve was effective at that. VERY effective. once that changed, his flaws got magnified and his strengths diminished. in short, steve was a dominant yet over-glorified street baller. tcad: uh, steve's image was tarnished before he even got to houston. in fact, it's how he made it to houston. remember?
The Barkley trade was worse than the Pippen trade. Barkley's addition was what ultimately set this franchise back. Yes, we made it far in the playoffs but we sacrificed our most valuable asset, Hakeem's post play. Barkley basically diminished Hakeem's ability on the court in the low post. IMO, Barkley was the reason Clyde retired, if I am not mistaken too.
I'll take Steve on this one, I think people got more tired of the cuttino & franchise era as time went on with stevie throwin up some pretty bad shots. But now Tracy is starting to bother some of us with his performance (intensity) and injuries.
T-Mac is by far the most criticized nba superstar i have ever heard, but Steve Francis deserved the criticism more. The rockets were just so bad back then. Also the Rockets in the late 90's was a way worse team surrounding Steve then what Lebron has surrounding him in cleveland. Also i bet people forget but correct me if im wrong Steve hasn't gotten out of the 1st round either.
I was explaining why he didn't get as much criticism because the fans were used to losing and none of his teammates were any good so Steve just said screw everyone i dont care if we win or lose i want to make the stupid all star team so im gonna get my 30 tonight. Did you watch the games back then? I was the only one booing steve francis in the stands when he wouldn't pass it to an open guy underneath the basket. Dribble into traffic and throw up a blocked shot.
I would say Tmac due to higher expectations. If I opened it up to all-time I would say Ralph Sampson. Ralph could never get a break. He was criticized for playing the way many big men in the NBA play today.
