So I've gradually reduced the theories of why I wake up 95 times after I go to sleep (this has been going on for a long time, sometimes it bothers me, sometimes it doesn't). First, it was maybe the sleeping pills weren't powerful enough to help me every other night. Yet, after trying (not in the same night) Ambien CR, Lunesta, and Rozerem (which is supposed to be like a horse tranquilizer) I STILL ****ing wake up at least 3-4 times in the night.

At this point, I can only suspect my bed (or possibly my sleeping positions). I'll give a checklist of what I don't do.

    - I don't have more than 100-150 mg of caffeine ALL DAY (usually this is by 2 or 3pm, and I go to bed at about 1 am)

    - I try my best to cut off TV/computer time about 30 mins to an hour before I go to bed.

    - I try to keep light in my room to a minimum to enhance sleepiness

    - I even do about 20-25 mins worth of Yoga before I go to sleep (not energizing yoga, evening/pm time yoga) coupled with a few random stretches to pop my back and what not.

Therefore, what in the hell is going on? I do sleep awkwardly and I've slept like a runner in mid stride lying on their side for about 10 years now. I can only point to that as a possibility that maybe my body just gets too tense from that sometimes and causes me to wake up every 2 hours or so. Or... it could be what I thought was my once comfortable bed of only 3-4 years causing my problems. I seem to sink in the center of it a lot. That's normal though right?

The main issue isn't falling asleep. I can actually do that pretty well without sleeping pills. However, the issue is definitely waking up. Usually it's a habit (at least for the last 5 years) of waking up and eating . Then it's just followed by what I'd describe as "cranky" mood wake ups. Where I think I'm just frustrated that my body's tense and the fact that AGAIN... I didn't get uninterrupted sleep.

This part will be for anyone that wants to suggest I'm deeply worried about something and have psychological issues waking up. Yes, and no. Yes because when I wake up I'm automatically mentally frustrated and pissed off because once again I can't sleep without at least 2, 3, maybe 4 wake ups. No, in that I'm not worried about any life issues etc other than just falling asleep, lol.

Is there anyone that this sounds familiar too? What did you do.. please :(

Go to your doctor. You may have some medical condition that is keeping you from falling into one of those deep sleeps.

Maybe. I don't think it's possible for a 22 year old to have any conditions. It's in the Bible, "22 year olds shall not have any medical conditions". Thus it was written.

On a serious note, maybe. I just got the Rozerem from the doc about 2 days ago, so I'll go back whenever that runs out.

    you think?

To my knowledge, I don't snore though. Isn't that pretty much a pre-req for sleep apnea or I might be mixing that up with something else?

Although, sleep apnea has a lot to do with oxygen flow (lack thereof) to the brain. I don't "seem" to wake up out of breath or anything though.

My son was having difficulty sleeping and was diagnosed with narcolepsy when he was around 24. He was taking Ritalin which helped tremendously, but I think they may have switched his medication recently.

They gave him Ritalin to sleep? Weird. I took it to stay awake in college.

I didn't snore either, to my knowledge, until I got married. :)

Yeah...the diagnosis and treatment seemed odd to me, but I guess you can't argue with success. He has done a couple of those sleep tests.

A buddy of mine went to a sleep institute here in town. They analyzed his sleep and figured out what was wrong (he had apnea). I would think that would be the best bet for you.

I had the same problem but I think my problems stemmed more from stress related issues. After I made some adjustments in my life things have gotten better.

Your subconscious knows you deserve to be punished; for something you did or something you didn't so.

Welcome to the stress of gown up life.

Sounds like to me it might be stress related. Part of you might have become accustom to waking up. If you are waking up and getting up, im sure that has a lot to do with your problem.

Narcolepsy is when you fall asleep at any given time. They give you Ritalin to keep you awake during the day.

I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy when I was a sophomore in high school. They prescribed Ritalin, and I was on it for about 9 months before they gradually weaned me off of it, and the Narcolepsy went away.

I made nice cash selling the Ritalin at high school. To this day, my Mother insists that my Narcolepsy was due to me smoking too much weed.

    :D

I asked him about this when he first told me he was diagnosed with narcolepsy. There is more to narcolepsy than falling asleep at any given time. Narcolepsy can cause daytime drowsiness regardless of night time sleep. They did a sleep study on him and determined he was not sleeping well throughout the night.

Aside from apnea it could also be allergies. That was the case for me.
