On ESPNEWS, they had a report about The Open Championship and how Tiger Woods will not be playing in it. They showed different golfers interviews and their opinions on him not playing and what it means. The anchor that ESPN has then says the winner of the event will be like the Houston Rockets of the mid 1990s when Jordan was out of the league. Basically saying the Rockets were not as great as one player.

Now I know this debate has been discussed time and time again but this anchor's remarks just made me think about how much I hated it and still do. Why should the accomplishments of those teams be tarnished, asterisked, or whatever else to indicate well they weren't really the best? Why do news members who are supposed to be unbiased, but rarely are, support the argument? People always seem to conveniently forget Jordan was back for the 2nd title and the Rockets swept the team that kicked the Bulls out.

Are there any Houston fans who actually believe this, that the title do not hold as much merit as any other title that any other team has won in the history of the NBA? As much as I would have loved to see it happen the Rockets-Bulls Finals during that era never came about but I believe that the Rockets would have given Chicago one hell of a fight, like no other team they played in those 6 championships.

    OK, I'm through ranting. :D

The only reason why Boston won this year is because Chris Webber retired ;)

Stuff like that doesn't bother me at all, they are just saying what the rest of the country thinks. ESPN is a national channel, not a local one.

It's r****ded. It makes about as much sense to downplay the Lakers or Spurs championships in the 00s because they didn't have to face the great 90s Bull teams. Or the 80s Lakers/Celtics. Or the 60s Celtics.

    Like I said, it's r****ded.

I posted this in the other thread on the subject, but I'll repost it here as well:

When the Rockets won their back to back titles, nobody would've beaten them...not the Bulls with Jordan and not the Sonics either...nobody. No doubt the Sonics were a tough matchup, but the year before the 1st championship Houston took them to game 7 overtime in Seattle and lost. I believe they would've gotten over that hump the following year, but Deke and company took care of them. So screw anybody who tries to diminish Houston's championships.

There were inspirational storylines in both those championship runs. But what made it so special and dramatic was that the Rockets weren't a dominant championship team. They had to use rely on gutsy, clutch performances, and yes a bit of luck, to win a lot of pivotal playoffs games.

Anyways, this question of whether the Rockets would have won if Jordan didn't retire is completely irrelevant. We can play with hypotheticals all day long and second guess every championship team from every sport.

Um if you even watched the segment you would have noticed the dark haired ESPN analyst said that was dumb and that the Bulls would have had no answer for Hakeem. He even did some stupid sweeping motion signaling the argument from the blond dude doing the golf segment was stupid.
