If you purchased music with DRM on it, would it be possible for the RIAA to track you if you stripped off the DRM? Also, is that even legal? Most websites say that it is illegal, but it makes no sense to me... Someone please explain this DRM mess to me, I just want to put my music on my MP3 player, I didn't know it had DRM when I bought it, stupid RIAA and those money-whoring bastards.
What is DRM? In any case, who cares, just download them. As long as you don't share them. Usually even if you get caught [not too likely] you'll just get a warning. Then you can stop.
Digital Rights Management. Some DRM won't allow you to download them to your PC and then transfer those files to an MP3 player because it sees it as sharing. That's what the OP is trying to get rid of.
I've been doing it for 2-3 years with no problems. I don't think they are really tracking anybody just going after those people who share files via P2P applications such as LimeWire. The makers of the program that I use say it is legal. Whether it is legal or illegal I do not know for sure. If you want explanation on the subject read Wiki's page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management They have some nice material and source sites you can read. Believe it or not there are some mp3 players out there that will play DRM-protected music, the one I bought my girlfriend does. Where are you getting your music from?
What mp3 player did you get you're girlfriend and what program do you use to get rid of the DRM? I was lazy enough that i used to get someone to do it for me but the program they used stopped working.
