Ok, but who says you need 2 double-team demanding players to have playoff success. The pistons team that won a champonship didn't even have one, unless you think Billups back then demanded a double-team.

pistons play in the east. i'm talking about the west. it's like saying the cavs could make it through the west going to the finals as easy as in the east do you?

They played the sixers...then they played the magic...and they got handled by the celts. Their problem was that they didn't have one player that could take over the game...maybe billups a couple of yrs back but hes old now.

What good was our team with TMac being double teamed with no player to take the ball to the hole as BILLUPS and Prince will do......pick your poison is better with more aggresive players.

Who's going to play SG...artest...prince....or even scola?

LOL...the best player detroit has is Rip...no deal unless he's in it. This trade would never happen...Morey is one of the best GMs you could ask for and so is Dumars, i don't think this could be a trade that would benefit both sides.

Not sure if I follow. The pistons team that won the championship (not just talking playoff success here) and that followed that up the next year with a return trip to the finals did not, imo have one double team demanding player.

Now I am not saying the line-up being discussed here would even get the rockets to the finals, but surely has a solid chance of playoff success.

In actuality, the chances of us landing artest, billups, and rip hamilton is a pipe dream. We could only be so fortunate.

TMAC has been in the league for 11 years just like Billups but with back and leg and shoulder problems

Personally I would like PRINCE and Hamilton over Billups.....is that worth it or is it now a rip off even though their not supposedly GO TO guys?

How would tmac for rip/prince help us. Would be a downgrade at the 2 for more depth at the 3. Doesn't make sense unless you trade Battier for a pg.

i dont think that would be a very good trade for the rockets. chauncey billups is already getting old and his contract is too expensive.

NO TEAM IS GOING TO HELP US ADD A 3rd scorer its what separates us from their chances of adding to their team......if it happens it won't be from a western team.......and the east aside from Detroit and Chicago has much to offer without consequences.

Battier is movable in my opinion for a third scorer but we will lose Defense for sure......so do we score or play D? I think Prince is above average at both and I would much rather have Prince than Artest if given the choice.

I don't know if someone has already posted this point, but this is what I would offer Detroit and nothing more:

    Houston Trades:

    - Tracy McGrady
    - Luther Head
    - Steve Novak

    Detroit Trades:

    - Rip Hamilton
    - Tayshaun Prince

The Rockets new team would be:

Point Guard ---- Alston / Jackson / Brooks
Shooting Guard - Hamilton / Barry / Francis
Small Forward -- Prince / Battier / Greene / Harris
Power Forward - Scola / Landry / Hayes
    Center -------- Yao / Mutombo / Dorsey

That team is so deep its frightening!

If they want to upgrade the starting point guard, trade Battier and Alston, we should be able to snatch up an excellent guard and still have plenty of depth at the 3 with Greene AND Harris as the main backups.

why are people bringing rip into the discussion? he's off limits. he's their best scorer so in no way are they going to trade him. and he's younger than billups. they want to team him up with stuckey.

T-MAC came out of highschool, he's 29 and he's only had nagging injuries after the serious back problem. He's stayed fairly healthy IMHO.

Exactly, we are going to suffer a lot at the 2 if we trade t-mac away so we need a MAJOR PG to make up for that, and perhaps be a better than T-MAC since he sets everything up.

    T-MAC + 2 rookies = 55 wins

The guy has proved time and time again he can carry a team, honestly after watching that NO game where we were at full strength and we pounded them i got chills. I want THAT team ok, except no more luther with Barry i honestly think we will make some noise as well. I say no trades...i've changed my mind over the course of this summer.

If this trade goes down and the Rockets end up with anything less than Rip/Billups, we will end up being royally screwed.

Our PG spot looks kinda scary. Scary in the sense of very weak. Actually our only strong point in our back court would be Hamilton. Tmac is really picking up the slack for our weak back court IMHO. I would trade Alston and a Forward (not named Scola/Yao) for a good PG if this trade were to happen, like you suggested.

Yaozer, I am actually not as concerned about that position as much as I have been concerned with the OVERALL depth of this team. We have been very weak behind the 2,3 and 5 spots this last season. The 5 only because Adelman didn't realize what Dikembe still had left in him. But at the 2 and 3 spots, our main scoring positions, we have only had McGrady and Battier. The bench has been made up of scrubs like Head and Novak and new guys trying to earn their way on the court like Harris. With this trade and the acquisition of Barry, we are stacked at the 2,3,4 and 5 positions. Rafer Alston has done an admirable job this last year in my opinion and we realized just how valuable he was when he was in the game during the playoffs versus when he was out of the game.

I agree it is our weakest position, but remember, we won 22 games in a row last season with that backcourt and no depth. If we can upgrade by trading Alston and Battier OR Jackson's expiring and Battier for a legit Point Guard, we would be perhaps the deepest team in the league, especially if Francis makes some form of contribution. I know everyone is writing him off but he is the most competitive player we have had on this team in the past 7 years minus Bob Sura. Sura definitely takes the cake but Francis truly loves to compete and I think he'll find his way back on the court this next year if given the chance.
