I'm entering my 2nd year of college at San Jac and taking every class I can there because of convenience and costs. I'm working full time at a bank to pay for school and any other personal costs because quite frankly I have become to expensive for my parents. I have two younger siblings and I prefer they focus on them. I have a couple of questions about my future in business. I like to travel so I would like to know what international business deals with. What GPA is needed to transfer to Rice from San Jac? And is it a recognizable school nationwide? I hear an accounting degree can get you any job but I just don't want any job that pays 60k a year I really want to go to school to get whatever degree necessary to move up as high as possible in a company. I'm also interested in advertising which I would like to know exactly how that career field works as well investment banking.
accounting degree won't even get you 60k right off the bat. you'll probably start out at 30k w/o experience.
By the 60k I meant thats probably the best I could do with that. But even then I would like to think 30k for a single guy out of college isn't to bad
If you get an MBA with a concentration in accounting, you can definitely top out higher than 60K. I think the average salary for someone with an MBA and CPA is in 70-80K range. You can do especially well for yourself if you go into corporate finance. Obviously salary isn't the only thing to consider though.
Rice does not have an undergrad business program. Your best bet is to transfer to UH which has a very solid business program. My rice got her MBA from Rice and I can answer more questions about that. To answer your question and MBA gets you p.a.i.d.. It also allows someone without a business undergrad to learn business and things associated with it. The Jones School at Rice is recognized nationwide. Not like going to HBS, Wharton or Kellogg but it is respected.
This guy speaks the truth. But you can also go to UT, TAMU, or even UH and do their professional program in accounting. It is 5 years long and you leave with you BBA and Masters in Accounting. That is an instant payday rather than doing undergrad alone and finding a job. Working three years, going back to school again.
I don't understand what you're saying about the undergrad thing. Can you elaborate please? And is it 5 years after completing my bachelors?
If you want to apply to rice mba apply to UT mba it is cheaper, better, and UT is more fun than rice.
Just look up the PPA programs at your business school. It's a little tough to get into (not really) and the last two years you kinda grind it out. But you can come out pretty big time on top by having a BA and MBA under your belt right out of school. It's a pretty good route to go to if you want to consider doing accounting.
You can really do any major. Getting an I-banking job is tough. You better be at the top of your class and better go to a good school.
I'd suggest thinking about UH or A&M or UT. Transferring to Rice from San Jac, ummm, just doesn't happen
Okay this is how it works. Traditionally you go to college. Get an undergrad degree in accounting. Work 2-3 years at around 25-35K, go back and get your masters. You graduate/take the cpa exam and then get a job paying 60K+. If you do the 5 year program you do this. Apply to this program. Get in. Spend an extra year in school. You spend some of your 4th year and most of your fifth taking graduate level classes towards your masters in accounting. When you finish you will have a bachelors in accounting, a masters in accounting and depending on when you take it you could have passed the cpa exam. This saves you time and you make a TON more money. Also you intern during your 4th or 5th year with one of the big 4 firms and you learn the in and outs of the accounting world. I may be wrong but I think UH offers this. i knwo for a fact UT and TAMU do.
Undergrad or Masters? Their masters program is solid. Everyone I know in my wife's class got baller jobs even the dumb ones.
