Steve Novak is better than Luther Head. Frankly it's quite shocking that so many here seem to be unaware of this.

Novak does a single thing extremely well.
Head does at least a handful of things decently well.
In the NBA, you have to have more than a single tool in your belt. One trick ponies get you nowhere.

If only because Novak is such a hopeless liability on defense, it's incredibly dubious to say he's a better NBA player than Luther Head. He can't put the ball on the floor even to sidestep a better outside shot, he's a laughingstock on the boards at 6-10, and I'm not sure if he could successfully pass to Yao Ming cherry picking under the basket.

If it's shocking to you that so many of are unaware of this, you must also be dumbstruck that JVG and Adelman have also been oblivious to Novak's awesomeness.

He has the best outside shot on the team. But that doesn't mean he's an NBA talent. Ask Trajan Langdon.

I posted this in the "Players To Cut" thread also. Obvious why Mutombo feels slighted.

If anyone is wondering Woods returned back to his old Euroleague team in Lithuania Zalgiris. 2 years 1.5 million euros. But in Lithuania the contracts are not listed net like they are in Spain, Greece, and Russia. However for a club the size of Zalgiris they are guaranteed.

Still that means Loren Woods got a 2 year $2.4 million contract. It's sad that Zalgiris is that desperate. No wonder Mutombo is getting pissed off at the Rockets constantly offering him $1.2 million. Even freaking Loren Woods makes that in the open market these days.

Come on. The scrub Trajan Langdon is a world beater compared to Head. Head does some things decent? Like what? The ONLY thing he can do is hit a wide open shot off a catch and even then ONLY in the regular season when the defensive pressure allows him to do so without rotating out to him.

He can do nothing else decently. Yes Novak is better. More range, better shooter and 6-9 or 6-10. They are the same exact player, one dimensional, no defense, nothing but shooter, but one is a much better shooter, more pure, much taller and more consistent with his shot.

Luther Head flat out sucks. "Ask Trajan Langdon". Well he's an inch taller, 15 pounds of muscle bigger and he has better ball handling skills and he's a much better defender than Luther Head. Yes that's how freaking terrible Luther is IMHO.

Luther Head is absolute hot garbage as far as I am concerbed.

Novak has the best shot in the league. That's why he will still get a shot in this league somewhere. That's why Morey reupped him. Would Morey have reupped Head if he was in his last year. I Don't know but after his horrid playoff performance I wouldn't. I don't need a sg that can't dribble, can't pass and in the playoffs can't shoot.

Agree Luther Head is much better than Novak becasue even though he isn't great, he can do more than just shoot the ball.
However we have a much better talent and prospect in Donte Greene.

I agree. Novak's shot is so good that you cannot even give him a slither of daylight to get it off. If you do, it's money. He hits 3s like guys hit layups. I don't think there is a single bigger threat from 3-point range than Novak in the league at this point in time.

And that skill alone warrants him a place in the league. He may never get regular minutes due to his defensive and physical deficiencies, but the threat of him alone on the floor opens up the inside game for other guys, and if some gung-ho coach will realise that you can make him the focal point of your offense when he's in the game and run screens for him, he'll thrive.

Now, I rarely hate on players, but really, we've given Head what? 3 years now? And in that span, he's been worse than MIA in the playoffs twice, he's shown that he can hit the outside shot and finish at the rim when he gets there, and he's shown that he can't dribble, plays matador d, can't pass, and is merely adequate on the boards.

Not much if you ask me. Especially since he can't even do the one thing that saves him in the playoffs, and that's shoot.

    If I'm Loren Woods.........

    A. sit on the bench of potential NBA championship team.

    or

    B. go play every day somewhere in Europe.

    I think I'm going with plan A.

    He will also either

    A. get paid very little money

    or

    B. get paid a much larger sum

    I think I'm going with plan B ;)

I think the team needs to balance the roster out with versatile players.

Thus, I am imagining that the minor trade Morey is talking about involves targeting versatile guys like Ron Artest and Lebron James.

...or get cut, and wind up looking for 10-days.

I agree with this post; there's no point in arguing who's better :D

I would only use Novak in blowouts, where he can jack it up freely (a la Game 6 vs the Jazz), or tight end game situations where you can use your timeouts or fouls to do offense/defense switches and swap him and Hayes in and out.

Head... uh, I would use him to dunk on Turiaf... or in early-to-mid season games in situations when we need 3 pt shooters.

Morey is ex-C's, yet never has there been a deal breathed as possible between him and Ainge (of which I have had an inkling, at least) - so, could this be a first?

...but, why two weeks? Is that when Landry will be re-signed and Hayes becomes expendable? Is Tom T's Hayes lust a precursor to a possible Tony Allen SnT?

We get two weeks - or so - to muse this, start threads about this, wallow in our summer despondency with this. ;)

It's hard to pin down how good luther is because when he's on, he's really effective. He can drain threes at a high rate, he can get to the hoop in a hurry, I've seen him play good defense on players his size, and he sometimes can drive and dish. His mid range game looked a little better last year, but that's not saying much because before it seemed like he literally couldn't make a 2 point shot. The problem is, when he's off, he's awful. See his playoffs stats, or any other game where he disappeared for huge stretches and made stupid turnovers and dumb fouls on defense. He seemed even more erratic last year.

Novak is a one trick pony. It's a really nice trick, but I've only ever seen him play passable defense once. He tries really hard every time, which might be a bad thing, because it isn't like a little more effort would help him any.

For my money, I would trade them both for 2nd round draft picks. Barry and Green can fill their roles adequately enough.
