I'm not so sure about Alexander's athleticism. He didn't look all that fluid to me in his last SL game on Saturday. I know he's reportedly got a 40-inch vert, but after watching him in that game, I'm not sure that will necessarily translate into functional NBA athleticism, i.e. he didn't look like he could explode past anyone off the dribble. After reading all the raves about his explosiveness, I was disappointed. Then again, it's only one meaningless summer league game. Maybe he just had the jitters.
1. When I saw on Yahoo that Houston had signed "Greene" I freaked out and thought it meant Gerald Green again...then I realized it was Donte Greene. Sweet performance by him. 2. Is there no foul limit in summer league? Check out Aaron Brooks' line...13 pts on 4-14 shooting, 4 assists, 9 PF, 6 TO, in 36 minutes..I thought he was working on his efficiency?
Also...compare that to Nicolas Batum's 3 pts on 1-6 shooting, and 4 TOs in 25 min in his summer league game...it's a little early but I'm thinking Morey is a GENIUS for getting rid of Batum to eventually pick up Greene
correct me if I am wrong but I believe in summer league play, players are allowed 10 personal fouls before being disqualified. that line doesn't look good for brooks'
We never had the intention of keeping Batum. I was like mad when I heard us picked Batum, but I soon found out that the Wizard that is Morey had some other motives in his mind. Go Morey!
here are some highlights that clutch put up on the main page: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UzzWWZoaLjQ&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UzzWWZoaLjQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Why would you be mad? Who knows how he'll turn out. Pritchard is Gandalf the White to Morey's Gandalf the Grey in drafting talent.
why would I be mad? because we only have a 2 year time frame to prove what this group of guys can do. Will Batum be able to help in the next 2 years? No! Just look at his performance in the summer league match.
he sure looked explosive in the pre-draft workout vids when he was abusing donte green lol..... http://youtube.com/watch?v=5_FdP4T_nME
Yeah I've seen that video. Watching it again, damn, he is explosive. But he looked nothing like that in the game a couple days ago. He may have been nervous (per draftexpress), maybe he was tentative, getting used to new teammates. Maybe he just had a bad game, it happens. Or maybe he's just a "workout wonder," like the guys that can blow people away at NFL combines but can't translate that athleticism into an actual game against pro level competition. Surely that crappy performance has been eating at him the past two days. Let's see if he is able to take it out on the Pistons SL team tomorrow.
In summer league, one is allowed 10 play fouls. I don't believe AB stats. He is supposed to improve and play better like Harris did (in this game) instead he got worse. This ain't look good for AB.
I wouldn't say he is worse. Whenever he tried to play his own game he looked the same. Which is drive to the basket and dribble and shoot. He did that actually a little better. His problem was he was trying to play tough D and Distribute and be physical and he did that poorly. To his credit he is definitely trying to improve and it is only 1 game; albeit an unsucessful one.
If you are not kidding you don't have a clue. It is not about money. Second round picks get the minimum if they want to play. But on occasion teams will give them a little more to lock them up for 3 years or give them an option for the 3rd year. The Rockets were one of the first teams to make this popular and surely they want to do the same with Dorsey if possible. It allows them to sign Dorsey and not have to go thru the same crap they are pressing thru now with Landry. If they wanted to just offer Dorsey a 2 yr deal for the minimum they would have signed him already. They obviously want to give him a little more for a 3 yr deal and lock him up with Bird Rights. The problem is they can't give Dorsey a 3 yr deal until they sign Landry. So Landry not signing is delaying the Dorsey signing. Now the problem becomes more difficult if Landry decides to pull a Varejao and holdout into the season. Then the Rockets may be forced to sign Dorsey to the minimum. So it's not about being cheap but don't expect to see Dorsey play this summer league unless a miracle happens and we sign Landry this week.
I thought he played within the offense mostly. He didn't just come down and jack up shots. He did shoot quickly but mostly he was the best option on the floor. Only a few times would I say he was just a little too tightly covered to be shooting. But even those shots were in the flow of the offense and he got fouled on 2 of them. Also to his credit in the second half he looked to pass more. SO possibly coaches talked to him at the half to keep shooting if he is open but but to look for the open man if he is not. He did that in the second half and showed he is a decent passer also. His defense wasn't too shabby either. Of course there wasn't a whole lot of team defense out there but he did hustle on defense and make it difficult for his man to shoot over him. My biggest disappointment is his lack of rebounding. But you can't teach him everything in 1 week. He will have to learn how to box out better.
I found the link for Greene's pre-draft workout video on youtube. In that video, Greene tried to drive to the basket but always got stopped midway by Alex and had to turn-around jumpshoot to score. That's excactly the same as what I saw in this SL game. Greene's ability to cut is almost zero. He always got stopped by the defenders.
Well, isn't being stopped by the defender only to hit a turn around better than getting stopped by the defender and having to kick it out only to have a team mate screw up and miss a shot or turn over the rock?
Morey offered to buy twice the normal insurance... I don't see what the problem is if he has insurance.
