After weeks of searching with no avail, I'm turning to the Hangout for help -- what beer sold domestically tastes most like Crown Lager (Australia)? I loved the fresh malty flavor.

Also, why do Aussie beef and dairy taste so much better than here? (Just like American wagyu tastes nothing like Japanese wagyu.) Is it the way we raise cows or the way we process beef and dairy?

IIRC, their cows are grass fed as opposed to corn fed here. It gives the meat a much different taste.

Because if America is anything like Australia all the good quality beef is exported to other markets Japan, US etc

For those interested, here's what I found after some more digging:

"Aussies, Coke in LA tastes like our Pepsi and vice versa (at least I found that)

don't try to convert them to the wonders of vegemite - it scares them.

Coors is not a bad substitute for Crown Lager but if in doubt try Labatt (Canadian) or take some with you. lite beer in USA is LOW fat not LOW alcohol (and yes there is a story behind that *hick*)"

I guess I'd never have guessed since I've never had Coors or Labatt  and I thought Crown was suppose to be a premium brand, brewed for visiting dignitaries only up until 1954.

I need to check out grass-fed beef as well.

    Its called Fosters Lager mate!

I'm being deadly serious. Fosters and Crown come out of the same vat - only subject to different quality specifications. A former Brewing Master from Carlton United Brewing (who make Crown and Fosters) gave a presentation at my MBA class and confirmed that this is true.

Many high brow Aussies don't want to believe this is true, but it is.

It's very odd, but I always thought that American tasted better than Australian beef, even though they are both beef.

You can't go wrong with a Crownie. Makes me laugh when you see people walking around with Corona or these "boutique" beers when Crown Lager leaves them all for dead.

Personally though I prefer a Little Creatures Pilsner from over here in the west.
