Thanks! I do think Scola worths this salary. I'll be very happy if Rockets can extend such a contract with Scola after his current contract is over. Oh by the way the rumored Euro clubs interested in Scola are Panathinaikos Greece and Moscow CSKA Russia.
IIRC,There are one former North Korean center and a current Iranian center(too lazy to google their names) who don't need to jump to dunk.
I am sure he could get a lot more than that from either of those clubs. Theo Papaloukas got 3 years $22 million from Olympiakos. Normally Scola would get the same money as him in Europe, true. But after Scola was a starter in the NBA at PF his rookie year, averaged 10 and 6 in the regular season on a 55 win team in the western conference, and then averaged 14 and 9 in the NBA playoffs as a rookie, I guarantee he can ask for and get a lot more than Papaloukas now. The Papaloukas deal of 3 years $22 million would have been his range if he didn't go to the NBA. Now it would be for sure way above that. Probably in the Anthony Parker range, and the contract Olympiakos offered him is something like $38 - $42 million over 3 years. Based on that I would guess Scola could get at least something like $30 million over 3 years if not even quite a bit more. That could be bad news for the Rockets if there is any truth to it at all. Thinking about it, Juan Carlos Navarro got $26 million over 5 years from Barcelona, and previously when both Scola and Navarro were in the Spanish League Scola made TWICE what Navarro did. Thinking about it, 3 years $22 million would be a low ball offer. Let's just hope this is complete BS.
Not sure if anyone is interested, but here is Argentina vs. Uruguay. Scola is playing in this game. (password: 2008) http://www.justin.tv/widgets/jtv_liv...lerta_deportes

WWWWHHAAAT?!? Papaloukas 3M euros per year, Navarro 1'5-2 per year. I don't know where you looked that info, but european teams doesn't handle that amounts of money yet. And that offer for Luis, is a lie. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=151024&page=4&pp=20
I say you're wrong, i think he could probably get about 100 million over 1 year given the incredible wealth of European basketball these days.
Sam, I have it from a reliable source that ballpark is more like $125 million a year for 5 years. That's before the shoe deal. Do they have shoe deals?
Scola is a superstar in FIBA! Currently, Argentina national team is his team. I hope he can become the leader of this rockets team soon.
By the way... Europeans are not that twisted, punctilious and ridiculous... In fact, a dunk is always better taken than a lay up (for a european coach included), simply because a dunk goes always down and a lay-up not. (wtf?)
Scola ended with 26 points and 8 rebounds today. Other scorers on Argentina were SG Paolo Quinteros with 21 and Nocioni with 17.
Big Euro contracts are listed in net euros. It would be like if in the US the Chronicle talked about T-Mac's salary as he made $13 million. Because the $13 million is his net salary. If he was playing in Europe that's how they would report it. So when you see Papaloukas makes 3 million euros that's 3 million euros net. Keep that in mind. The team is paying him considerably MORE than that, because salaries over there are reported only for the net portion. The gross salary is not reported. It seems this is something few people in the States understand.
I just hope Scola doesn't try to do to much on the court with Ginobli out and wind up gettin hurt. We NEED scola healthy this upcoming season to stay competetive!!!
