Broken bones in themselves are not that bad - they usually heal back as strong if not stronger than they were before. Its the ligaments that will be the problem. Has anybody heard which ligaments? About 5 years ago, I dislocated my ankle playing basketball (landed on someone elses foot), which resulted in severe ligament damage. It took over 12 month before i could run again, 24 months to play any sort of sport and it still troubles me today. Lets hope he didn't do that.
I hate to be cold because I feel so bad for him, but I agree with Elie #17 -- this is bad news for the Rockets. Not because we would have gotten him (save a win in the lottery to be in the top 3), but because it's one less quality player to choose from at pick 8-10.
But Clutch, if we get an extra later 1st rounder, I would consider drafting him and putting him on the IR for the next year or maybe two. Any more reflections of players with similar injuries rebouding would be appreciated.
You beat me to it, sir scarvajal. I was just going to ask everybody if they would gamble on Martin if he is there at the 8-10 slot. The question is very premature because we really don't know the severity of the injuries, but if the long term prognosis for recovery is good, I'd take him.
UTTER CHAOS IS RIGHT. But you know what this means.... Every underclassman will have to strongly consider taking the money, now!!!
Let this be a lesson to college basketball players everywhere (Morris included): if you're good enough to get a guaranteed contract in the NBA, declare for the draft now! Delaying leaving college is like dancing with the devil.
Clutch...not bad news for Rockets at all. This will cause more underclassmen to come out. yesh!! Get out of the NCAA now. Play some ball for the big leagues. Here comes Troy Murphy!
The fibula is the non weight bearing bone in the back of the leg. Not to bad to break that. The ligaments are the key, chances are he will be fine by the NBA season. I would take a chance. I think it will turn out that it is not as bad as it seems. DaDakota
I'm with Juan. Screw all the "authorities" that hype the benefits of a college education--my self taught MCSE has done more for me than my BS in Finance ever has. You should declare yourself the second you learn you're good enough for the NBA, and not a second later. You'll just about always have your mind, and you can always go back and get that education--but you may not always have that body.
Pole, I have an MCSD and a double bachelor's in Geology and Philosophy. I make 8X what my philosophy advisor makes... 5X what my geology advisor makes (only b/c he gets research grants $$$). But there's no way in hell I'd have given up my college life/education. To do so would have made me a boring suburbanite that much faster There's no comparison though w/ the bball bounty. If Morris doesn't have tos like in the UVA game, that 3year 11,000,000.00 slot is his.
I just saw the replay of the injury on ESPN. He tripped on another player, then fell on his own ankle. It twisted outwards and the bone snapped. I suppose the ligament damage is in the ankle too. I sure hope so, because I've injured my ankles til the cows came home, but they are hangnails compared to my knee injury. They also said he is out for a minimum of 4 months. ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem.
Now I just hope Cincy gets a 2 seed in the same region where Texas gets a 3 seed. Rocketman95, I was just thinking the same thing! Not to wish injury upon anyone, but this could open the doors for some other teams. Will make things more interesting in the NCAA Tourney. although I had the misfortune of visiting rotten.com (don't do it), this is pretty gross too... http://espn.go.com/media/ncb/2000/0309/video/000309cn2v.avi
Shanna, or anyone else, don't get me wrong. In no way shape or form am I happy about what happened to Kenyon Martin. I'm just relieved that he's proven his worth as a basketball player. Plus, I wouldn't mind if he dropped in the Rockets' laps.
Its just too sad to watch. Biggest star in College Hoops and now his career is a question. I dont think Houston will pick him up. Rockets want to get a guy that can come and start working. I would pick a player up with our pick and then trade drew and a second round pick for another first round pick and pick up martin .
After the surgery there will be a clearer picture of his future ------------------ We would like to get rookie Francis on the break for some easy scoops in the first quarter...
If the Rox pick between 8-13 and Kenyon is still there, then by all means, pick him up. Its worth it to grab a player who could bring the D and board for your team in the near future. I believe Kenyon was going to be a top 3 pick, and that this will hurt those chances, but he wont be there past middle of the first round if he rehabs it properly.
