Well B's thread has inspired me to ask YOU, the Clutchcity.net BBS Hangout poster to help find me an apartment.

I've already searched a few websites (apartments.com apartmentguide.com, and moveforfree.com), and I've produced a couple apt's, but I thought I'd ask around on here and see if anyone knows of a hidden apartment that kicks much ass...

    Specifications:

    1) Located anywhere from the beltway inward to Houston
    2) 1 bedroom/1 bathroom
    3) No more than $400 per (450 per if bills are paid)
    4) Doesn't have to be furnished
    5) Would prefer net access
    6) Also would like for it be along a bus route

Anyway, I would really appreciate it if you guys could help me out here and maybe let me know of any good apartment deals out there.

    Thank you for your time...

Good luck with that price range! If I could find a decent place for $400 per month or $450 with bills I wouldn't be looking for a roommate. Actually you might be able to find some older apartments that are in that price range, but I'm not sure about how well maintained the complex will be. I will be watching this thread with interest cause if there is a good price at that price and located on the south side of town I'll want to check it out.

I don't know what your threshold for nastiness is, but Place Vendome on Hillcroft and Unity (between Richmond and Westheimer) is about $450 all bills paid.

Well it's not too nasty. I lived there a few years ago, and never once saw any rats or roaches. I used to sleep outside my front door when I came home too drunk to open the door. I always woke up without a sore ass.

    Great location, obviously.
    Management was pretty proactive.

If you're willing to creep out a bit after the Beltway, Westchase offers a lot of cheap apt, that are decent. Past the beltway is not no man's land as a lot Houstonians claim. Hell even Steve Francis was at the Mister Car Wash out there.

    Good luck.

I'm looking for something like that as well. My biggest stipulation -- MUST have high-speed internet. It's expensive, but I've considered walden apartments.

The way I see it, the cost is 650 to 675.

That includes internet. I'd be paying 50 for high speed anyways, so then I'm paying around 600. It's close to work, good community (I think?), and nice.

I also want to live somewhere that has a good, young community. I want to go live in a college dorm :)

Must have it already wired? What if it's available for you to get? Like DSL?

Why don't you guys just call up some apartment locator places. I think most, if not all, are free services.

BGM...you should check out the apartments along Renwick between Bellaire Blvd. and the Southwest Frwy. You ought to be able to find something in your price range around there.

Hmmm...I always assumed you had to pay the Apt Locators money, maybe I'll drop by 1 and see what the deal is...

Apartment locators are free; they get their $ from the apartment complex when you sign a lease. Actually, they only get money if you put down on the form that you heard about the place from the locator service: I once had a locator offer to split the proceeds with me if I'd lie and tell the apartment complex he helped me find the place.

$450 is very, very low for rent. You might try the Astrodome area - I know there are some cheap places near there, and it's on the loop.

C'mon BGM, move on inside the loop!

You'll need to drive around The Montrose and The Heights but I bet you can find a place for around that much... Just the other day I saw a pinned up note for a one bedroom for $400 near the Museum District (near Montrose)... so the deals are out there, you just have really look for them.

    GOOD LUCK

    BGM,

Don't listen to Tex...you would probably not want to live around there, I know the area well.

Yeah, get a locator...good luck with that cheap.

Well DM and I visited an apt today on the SE side and we think we've found the right place. This apt complex is constructing a brand new building which will open up in a month or so which consists of nothing but 1 bedroom/bath apartments.

It's $460 per with all bills paid. Only extra fees we have to deal with are phone/internet, plus a little extra for cable which will include 3 hbo's.

Anyway, this place is awesome and I want to thank all of you guys for the help...

I'll be moving in in May and DM should follow me a couple weeks later...
