oh heck no. billups seems to be on the downside of his career and fast, plus unlike most people here i do think if we can find a capable backup pg behind rafer we will be ok at the PG spot. I think a full year of a healthy rafer and bobby jackson isnt that bad considering the system that Adeleman runs. Hamiliton is a great mid range shooter but cannot create plays for others. I dont see this team striking as much fear to other teams with billups and hamilton than they would with tmac. Neither player commands a real double team like tmac does and of course yao. also people can and will criticize tmac for his playoff failures but i think i would be a lot more troubled when detroit the past three years failed to beat the heat, cavs and celtics when I would say (even in the celtics case) they had the better team (certainly in the case with the heat and cavs) It seemed the whole team was just plain complacent and a lot of that would stem from billups and hamilton the backcourt leaders. Tmac never really had a clearly better team in the playoffs, homecourt only twice in his career, this past season when himself and the rest of the starting lineup was injured and the year before when the two teams were evenly matched record wise but the jazz had more talent the rockets did. but there was no reason why that pistons teams should have not made the finals out of the east the past 4-5 years if they played with the same intensity and focus that they did when they did make it in 04 and 05 we all know the controversy of the 05 mavs series now.
We already have a good future with our rookies. Don't give up the CHANCE of a healthy TMAC Yao season. If you do I will be mad when I order my tickets!! !! I have no backbone
A trade between the team makes sense. Tracy would have a better supporting cast; we would have better and healthier depth. Obviously the Pistons are offering Billups and Prince. They need Sheed for size. Billups and Prince would put Detroit in the 2010 sweepstakes BIG TIME, but we would be out. But if we took Billups and Prince, I would want some sort of first rounder at least to go along with it. I don't know if it would be the inducement Morey needs to avoid the 2010 Summer of Free Agent Love.
it does help both teams (but like you said, a lot of teams are eyeing the 2010 sweepstakes and trading tmac would take us out of that). getting billups and prince would give us the all around depth that we lack. but i'm not so sure we're any better and is any close to a championship. (i think we would be better with rip but dumars is not offering rip b/c he's their best scorer now, unless he gets tracy). detroit would automatically become the favorite (or along with the celts) again. stuckey can only improve. you have rip. now you add tracy to the mix. with sheed. tmac will get out of the first round for sure. i don't think tracy wil say no or pout about this trade. but i would try to milk them out of more than just billups and prince.
TMac is my fave player even before he came to Houston. Toronto to Orlando to HOustons. Those are all my teams that were my fave. Could Detroit be my fourth
If T-Mac ended up with any one of the top tier EC teams next season, it would be a cinch that he would finally get that monkey off his back of never advancing past the first round of the playoffs due to the fact that he would be playing in a weaker conference. I feel that trading T-Mac now or later is a debatable subject. Trading him this offseason is all about trading him when his trade value is still there. If you were to give him and Yao another season together, then it is said that you are taking a chance of his trade value (same thing applies to Yao) going down by this same time next year given the history of injuries he has had over the past three seasons because I know that if he misses a significant amount of games next season due to injury, then that is just what will happen. Another thing, if next season, he only proved to be too much of a ball stopper in RA's motion offense, then his trade value might come down as well for even that reason.
are you saying adding tmac would diminish their hopes of contending for a title? it's not like anyone has ever said about coming to detroit (any big star anyways). their big guns right now only have a 2-3 yr window period. adding tmac would make it a great 2-3 yr window period.
Aw man, I want Mac to stay in Rockets red. It will make the season more interesting though, cause if he does get traded, I'll have the Rockets and Mac's new team to follow religiously! Goodbye, personal life!
The Rockets should only consider trading Tmac to Detroit if they get Stuckey (which they probably can't). I like Prince, but I don't see him filling a need unless we trade Battier for a consistent 15-20ppg scorer.
I think Dumars might have targeted Tracy partially because he thinks Tracy will be easier to pry away since there have always been questions floating around him. However, when he runs into Morey's loyalty to Tracy (or...sense), he'll realize it's not as easy as it seems and move to another player. That's pure and absolute speculation. I'm scared. Morey, just come out and say you're not doing it, so we can go back to talking about Cold Stone Creamery instead of the Pistons.
yes, the only 2 they were targeting are melo and tracy. melo was the first choice b/c of how he performed in this playoffs but denver knew he's too young to give up. tracy is the other guy b/c of his lack of success and maybe houston wants to start anew. all i know is dumars knows his pistons team needs a superstar scorer BADLY. the group right now has lost the past 3 years to great scoring guards. getting a tracy or melo would combat a wade/melo/pierce. they have the defense, rebounding..., just need that special scorer. dumars knows it. obviously he would prefer a kobe/lebron but let's be real, those 2 are the 2 best players in this league.
yeah I guess you're right. http://www.mlive.com/pistons/index.ssf/2008/07/tmac_to_detroit_deal_not_close.html
