I wonder how well he can still play the point. He's a good addition, but wish we had him a few years ago. His defense wasn't that good last year, but was respectable within the Spurs system prior to last season.

He is more willing to mix it up on the offensive end than Battier. Barry is a better shooter and passes the ball better. If healthy, I expect Barry will push Battier for minutes provided he isn't playing any point.

It would be nice if Green steps up as it would give the Rockets Battier as an asset to help find some help at the point.

At this point of his career he's really just a 10-15 minute backup shooter with some ball handling skills and good IQ and sub par defense. That's still way better than Luther though.

Deke wants to get paid for what he did last year which was step into the starting role when Yao went down. And from the contributiuon he made was worth more than the league minimum salary. The only way to get him more would be to dip into the MLE which Morey doesn't want to do. That may be the ultimatum thay gave him.

I wonder will they change their mind if Landry signs for part of it providing they can stay under the luxury tax?

I think there is a chance Deke might go to Boston or just retire.
I mean it's a slap to the face to the old man when we drafted Dorsey.

Final lineup should look like this n i would hate to see Novak go, hes a pure shooter like Peja, not much help on defense but his shooting will help us.

    Yao/Dorsey/Deke
    Scola/Landry/Hayes
    Tmac/Harris/Novak
    Battier/Barry/Greene
    Alston/Francis/Brooks

Either Deke, Bjackson or Harris will most likely be cut or B. Jackson will take Francis spot if Francis get traded. I see why Rockets not offering Mutombo a deal since the front court is clogged with PF's, that can also play center, like Dorsey, Scola n Hayes. I would love to see Francis come back in shape and mesh in with the current chemistry, he could be the third superstar Rockets looking for.

a slap in the face? really? we drafted someone as a BACKUP knowing that yao could get hurt. which means at the end of the day he'd be behind yao and dikembe. especially knowing deke is at best coming back for 1 more season if at all. if that's a slap in the face, I'd hate to hear what tmac had to say about them drafting donte greene. sheesh guy.

What leads you to believe Francis will come back at all? I don't see him ever playing again but I could be wrong. I would love to hear some real news on his progress

How do you figure? If you're going to make that statement at least back it up by exaggerating the things you think he still does well at his age.

As close as we are to the LT, it is wise to cut salary. I am sure there will be deals that we can't do because they would put us over.

Dude, I agree that T-Mac plays the 2 and that Battier plays the 3, but anyone who really knows basketball knows that T-Mac is not a 2 anymore. I personally believe that he's been playing out of position for the last couple of years. We need to move him to the 3 and trade Battier for an impact 2. He's not the spot up shooter we need at the 2. Just look at his 3pt and field goal percentages last year.

We don't need to use an exemption to sign Deke. I don't believe we have ever renounced his rights.

But if we pay more than his min (1.26 mil) we pay more in salary cap charge (because the league reimburses a significant portion of older vets salary) and significantly more in lux tax (probably double the difference).

So Deke asking for 2 mil via an exemption instead of 1.3 is some costly to us. Much better to pay him 1.3 (min) and donate .7 mil to his charity of choosing.

I'd like to have Deke, but I think 1.3 is fair. And if he walks I am not that concerned with Scola/Dorsey/Hayes/Landry filling in back-up C minutes. If our team is healthy there really isn't many minutes for Deke.
