I would really like to see the Rockets make a move and bring him home. He's the muscle we've always needed beside Yao. Would you be willing to give up Scola, Head, Landry, or someone of similar caliber to get it done? And secondly, do you think we would be an instant favorite to win it all or close to it?
Not feeling him. Other than shotblocking and better defense, I don't see what Okafor brings that Scola doesn't. Plus Scola's more durable. Okafor is one bad back away from missing significant time.
No, we need a playmaker at the guard position. Not another PF. Would be nice to have him, but he is not our need for a championship.
There is no way in hell that OKAFOR would not make this team extremely better. I know you guys become enamored with some guys but he definitely worth giving up Scola for....did you see him eat Scola up this year? I love Scola too and maybe OKAFOR won't go crazy for evry play like Scola but Okafor is a threat all over the court especially with his mid range jumper.
Okafor would definately make this team better ...but you only take him if the offer is too good to refuse. Barring a no-brainer trade, our #1 target is a permimeter player who can create their own shot.
You have just explained why the Bobcats would never trade him for Scola. End of discussion... it is not going to happen.
I never thought the BOBCATS would ever trade for Scole if I said that I sure didn.t mean to.... Okafor is way better than Scola to me and a piece that make the rockets contenders for years to come. I still think we should build a team to overpower the weak frontcourt s of the nba instead of trying to go small. I say get guys that shoot 2 feet from the basket instead of 20. Unfortunately that has its defensive liabilities as well.
If we were going this route, we would have gone after Brand. Brand is a true PF with the offense to complement Yao and Tmac.
Okafor may be better than our PF's but they fit better with our team. We need guys who can step out, hit the mid-range J and drive in. We don't need guys who will clog up the paint for Yao.
I love these ideas that seem to assume that the salary cap is a mythical idea that we only sometimes have to follow.
Okafor to Yao is like Thorpe to Dream. Brand is like Barkley to Dream. One needed more attention than the other for the coach.
I've always seen him as another Brian Grant. Otis Thorpe was a fair comparison. Not much offense, rugged rebounder and defender, decent shot blocker. I doubt he'd be an Adelman guy - he's not someone you want operating in the high post, passing or shooting. Scola on a rookie deal >>> Okafor on a near-max deal. Evan
Charlotte won't take anything we would offer for him. At least I don't think they would be that dumb.
