The only player that I think might be worth offering the entire MLE is Josh Childress but Atlanta will probably match it.

If Landry is going for near the MLE, I'll take a pass and instead shoot for James Posey. That way Battier becomes expendable, and can be used along with our expirings and draft picks for a guy like Miller or Artest at the deadline.

If not Posey, then I'd like JR Smith. Headcase for sure, but extremely athletic and an amazing shooter. And like Barry, he is a much better backup than Jackson or Head.

You do realize that Landry is not a NBA caliber starter right? 5.5 million for an unproven sophomore with possible knee issues? I don't think so.

Some names come to mind, that probably would be willing to take the MLE and currently still available:

James Posey - Proven playoff player. Good 3 shooter, decent defender. Winner.

Kurt Thomas - Great backup for Yao if Mutumbo doesn't come back. Veteran, solid defender, smart player.

J.R. Smith - Can be a headcase at times. But on some days he looks like the 2nd coming of Kobe Bryant. Ricky Davis is also available, but I think J.R. Smith might be less of a team cancer. And if we already are picking up Barry then this might be a little redundant.

Too lazy to look up who else is available, but the power forward position doesn't look that dire with Scola starting, so I'm not drooling over Landry. No way Landry is becoming some Stud that we will be crying over if he leaves for bigger money. We aren't a rebuilding franchise, so we don't need to be paying nobodies as if we were.

You guys are missing the point.
Rox has Right of First Refusal for Landry, so they have no need to hurry. In fact, Rox shouldn't make the first move, but let other team(s) to do the first offer to establish Landry's value.

milsap and david lee can do the same things at the same price. JR Smith is the atheletic, slashing 3pt big guard. My man Ricky Davis on the bench as the big backup to the 2/3. Sasha gives the team to move rafer. I have a feeling Landry is going to have hard feelings since the rox pulled that unprofessional move right before free agency. This could be another varejo deal.

Yeah those stats really mean a lot. Did you forget to mention 5.0 PF per 36, and .4 blocks per 36? Thats worse than Chuck Hayes my god.

Take a look at Novak's number per 36 too. He would average 18.4 pts. Only .5 turnovers. 2.3 PFs. 4.8 rebounds and also .4 blocks. Damn, he must deserve the MLE too.

David Lee is a FA?!? I'd snatch him up in a second, he's better than Landry and not undersized like Landry. If we miss out on Posey, then I'd gladly give most of the MLE to Lee.

Not a free agent. How do you propose signing someone still under contract?

    also not a free agent.

There is no same price because they are not free agent.

idiot whose idiotic play hurts the team. Princeton offense can't run on Southwest Mississippi Valley State mind.
should stay there and never gets off.

Restrict FA the Lakers don't want to let go.

Did everyone forget that he missed a year and a half at Purdue of the three years he was there because of a knee injury?

I like the kid just as much as the next guy and he really was a spark to our offense last year but let's be careful not to overpay an 24 year old who has only played one complete season in the last four years. Houston should understand more about his knee before offering him part of the MLE.

Plus like what was mentioned earlier, they really stand to benefit financially from waiting out the market and seeing who is serious about Landry. I think they are right to speculate that the market is not as hot for him as Landry's agent thinks. I wouldn't say other teams see him as a bust, but I think other teams will see several red flags that they likely wouldn't want mess with(the knee, limited playing time that project nicely but isn't entirely accurate, Houston matching an offer).

Posey's going to sign with the C's in 24 hours.
Kristic... A gamble. Plus we might not be able to have him.
    J.R.? Say no to headcases.
Wright, Miami will not let him go. Plus we don't really need him.

Besides, we need our 2nd PF.

I'm glad you're not our GM.

Landry+Battier for Posey and JR Smith

    Lovely

    Delonte West is a restricted?

Any word on whether the Cavs will match? Since he's their starting point...If we have a realistic chance on getting him, I say go for it. He's a hell of a shooter and at least on par with Rafer defensively at the point. Plus he can at least finish his drives. Not sure if he's better than Rafer at setting the table, but I see a lot of Bob Sura in West. He can probably push Rafer to the bench if we can get him somehow.

JR and Kristic is two players that are better, and there is Posey and Delonte West that are not too much better but will help our team more than Landry because of our needs(we have Scola, Hayes, Dorsey). But I would rather sign Landry and get another wing player with the rest of the MLE.

Everyone is talking about Landry knee, and rightfully so, but I'm more concern with how good will he be when he doesn't have TMac(when he's hurt) giving him all those passes to get easy dunks. He has no offensive moves. He gets all of his points off put backs and TMac passes. He remids me of a young Malik Rose, which isn't a bad thing i guess.

    don't be so sure.

if they have to pay max to keep josh smith they might be reluctant to match on childress.

however, i don't think the rockets would offer more than a 2 year deal. no one is willing to move cities on such a deal unless they will retire (barry) at the end of it.

The only other asset weighing vs Landry is salary cap room for our "big move" at the trade deadline.

No other team is allowed to offer Landry more than the MLE. So we can't lose him if we don't want too.

If Josh Smith ends up getting huge money from Atlanta, I think they might let Childress walk if someone offers him the full MLE.

I would MUCH rather have Childress than Landry. I like Landry, but his knees scare me.

    Wow.

So based on 30 or so games we all of the sudden know a guy who has chronic knee problems is worth the MLE?

    Jump the gun much?
