I feel really bad Unknowingly, I am a leech! Ya see I posted this squirell image on ROXRANs thread... http://process.poweredfusion.com/images/squirrel.gif The owner of this image, who origanlly posted it on another BBS sent me this private messge: Topic: Leeching my Squirell Image Unless you want to pay for the bandwitdth that is being used from you posting my squirell on http://bbs.clutchcity.net/. I suggest you remove it. his site: http://www.poweredfusion.com Was I rude for doing what I did? The image was only 3KB? Was he rude? Threatening to charge me? HAHA! your opinions please... BTW, I will take it off later...gotta work now!
You mean, he owns the image of that squirrel? I don't see a copyright symbol next to it. I believe the little fuzzy guy deserves to be seen!!!!! He should not be held down, stuck on one website. Anyway, what a moron.
some people... I mean, how many hits was he getting? Is this in the ROXRAN thread about his father? That thread has been getting alot of hits... but enough to make someone pay for bandwidth... whatever. that guy is a LOSER! I had someone link my collage of George Harrison to a gaming forum from my website... I figured after a while, I'd stop getting hits from that thread and I did... big whoop.
ok, image gone! But whos to say YOU GUYS woudn't take this link: http://process.poweredfusion.com/images/squirrel.gif and unlawfully use it on any other BBS forum? I'm just sayin' who can police everything on their site? Impossible!? Man, that internet stuff is just crazy! [/i]BTW DM, his address is clear as day on the net as is mine and probably everyone elses, hes just a kid and its only a 3KB squirell for cryin' out loud! No violence is neccessary![/i]
Redistribution of any intellectual property (copyrighted material) without the approved consent and/or license of the copyright owner is illegal because the art, graphics, linkware, photography, music, lyrics, poetry, writing, fonts, dingbats, etc., is held "in copyright" to the owner. One of the exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner is the right of distributing their copyrighted material (per the Copyright Act of 1974). Redistribution denies that exclusive right to the copyright owner. The owner of the copyright stipulates how the intellectual property can be used, i.e. Terms of Use. The unauthorized use of intellectual property outside of the creator's Terms of Use constitutes an illegal act of copyright infringement. Billing for bandwidth usage by the leaching of images falls under my Terms of Use. Images on the Internet are not required to display the copyright © symbol to be copyrighted. I suggest you do some reading : http://www.loc.gov/copyright/
hahahaha!!! that's the guy who owns the squirrel!! he signed up on the BBS! hey iri... you a rockets fan?
And all I can see is an 'I LEACH IMAGES' (LOL!); I don't even get to see this awesome, copyrighted squirrel.
Some Web hosting companies charge you by the amount of traffic your web site generates. I suspect his concern is with that. I would consider it a valid concern if that's the case.
Admins, Since this is my 1000th post, will you do me a favor? I don't like the fact that this guy is using up bandwith on our board. Will you please delete his post and disable his sign up name. Thanks!
Wow. This is very funny! irigoth, I assume that in your copywrite diatribe, you were referring to this: Just out of curiosity, what were the ACTUAL costs/lost income that CC.net BBS users who were viewing this tiny little GIF cost "the #1 in cheap, reliable hosting"? Is your bandwidth so limited that you feel the need to police where each hit is coming from? When you publish in a medium that is based on hyperlinks, you implicitly allow permission to link to your website. That is the whole nature of the beast. It might be bad "nettiqute" (although it is becoming more accepted) to link without informing the author, but it is NOT copywrite infrigement. Some sites restrict the downloading/viewing of their images from other sites by having those files appear to be different files once linked. You can do this, if you wish, but even these alternative pictures have a filesize to them (and corresponding bandwidth cost). Just my 2 cents... x34
x34, you assume wrong. The company Powered Fusion and its TOS has no basis in this. Notice where the image is located, on a subdomain, a paid for account with bandwidth limits.
Sometimes a pic of a squirell can mean a lot to people. Just think if thats all you could do was stare at your precious squirell pic all day, then to find out all these other people were checking out, YOUR SQUIRELL, how mad would you be? thats right up there with having your girl cheat on you. Not that this guy would know being that he and he squirell pic are an item. . . What a cool guy
