Two Found Dead Inside Ex-Boxing Champ's Car

BALTIMORE, 1:19 p.m. EST February 28, 2002 - Police are investigating an apparent double homicide in North Baltimore that may have ties to former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman.

Police said a man and woman were found dead early Thursday morning in a car in the 2800 block of Edgecombe Circle.
WBAL-TV 11 News reporter David Collins said sources have told him that the two were apparently shot to death. Collins said the car in which the victims were discovered was registered to the former boxing champion, but police do not believe "The Rock" or his wife, Crystal, are victims in the crime.

Rahman spokesman Shawn Caesar said the man, whom he would not identify, was an employee of Rahman's who was working with the boxer to open a clothing store in downtown Baltimore. Rahman lent the employee the car, Caesar said.

"It's not unusual for Hasim to loan one of his vehicles out employees. There are three or four being borrowed right now, this is one of the car's that was borrowed," Caesar said. "So, it was his vehicle, he did know the person in the car, he does not know any of the circumstances around the murder."

11 News reporter Jennifer Franciotti says the car had apparently run into a tree and concrete barrier when it was discovered and suffered damage to the nose of the vehicle. Police were called to the corner of Finney and Edgecombe Circle around 2 a.m.

Police have no suspects at this time.
