Background checks, references etc etc. If you try you can succeed. But as long as people like you support them and their illegal network it becomes harder and harder.

How do you do a background check on somebody without a background?

    Free market pressure creates workers?

No it's not, halfbreed believes that because other people can wait and can pay to immigrate here legally everyone else should too, but not everyone's situation is the same.

    De-facto.

The world operates on incentives, now that's the answer to everything.

Their history is important, but it doesn't discount the fact that in the present significant changes in Mexico are taking place, for example: like I said, there has been small, but constant economic growth, which is abnormal for Mexico; the middle-class is growing, admittedly, the standard is a lot lower there than here, but it is growing nonetheless; the birth-rate is decreasing to close to replacement levels, which is always a result of improvements in nutrition and health; higher education is becoming more readily available; and, if I'm not mistaken, less Mexicans are immigrating here than before, which can be a result of tighter border security and less "touch-backs", but is also because the necessity is not as great as it used to be.

With all that said, I don't agree with the direction Mexico is going; they're the U.S.'s b**** and believe that by being that they can improve, but all it is doing is perpetuating the conditions you talk about, they should be going the same direction as the rest of Latin-America: LEFT.

Most do not get paid below minimum wage, nowadays, the attraction employers have to immigrants is the fact that they don't have to give them benefits, and the fact that in lots of cases, there isn't anyone else.

You talk about Mexico's corruption, but having a law and not enforcing it is, by definition, corruption, just like all of the laws that are ignored in Mexico.

If you or anyone else wants to continue to label them illegal despite the fact that they break a law that is almost completely ignored, then go right ahead.

Amnesty has been tried a few times before that, that's why immigrants have come to expect it periodically.

It worked out fine. Population and economic growth were tremendous.

Did the inequality between the two countries increase or decrease?

I'm just skimming this thread and don't have time to respond but did want to comment on this.

Actually my mama doesn't call me "sishir". At least not as people would think it is pronounced.

actually, it does. it's not like we have a 0% unemployment rate.

    De-facto.

so the economic incentive is enough for them to break laws to enter this country illegally, but not enough for them to practice the language that 90% of non-illegal people here speak?

Here's a tip - most employers don't give benefits to ANY part-time employees, whether they're legal or not.

so the best way of fixing that is not to do the right thing and actually enforce, but to declare it perfectly ok? big slap in the face to the people who actually followed the rules. What kind of message are you sending here? "Hey, as long as their police force can't keep up with you, eventually you'll be pardoned! Time for everyone to start drug-running, they can catch some of us but they'll never catch all of us, and eventually it'll be legal because they just don't want to deal with the underlying issue!"

Copyright infringement is against the law.
Copyright infringement is almost completely ignored.
    Is copyright infringement illegal?

    Speeding is against the law.
90% of speeders don't get ticketed or caught.
    Is speeding illegal?

See? I can do it too!

If it was my restaurant I would absolutely want to know ho was working there. Don't forget about daycare workers, airplane mechanics and so on. Your support of these illegal activities is jeopardizing everyone.

yes, and i feel just terrible about it. i can see how the safety concerns behind background checks for busboys and airplane mechanics are entirely equal. i'm glad you pointed that out. valuable. very very valuable. i feel entirely different about this issue now.

Oh so now you are selective about what jobs illegal aliens can lie and break the law about. How convenient.

No, i'm selective about what jobs justify background checks from employers.

Yeah. But for my efforts, I'm certain that every dining establishment in this great country would be busy running background checks on people seeking those positions.

So You are . . .just for the record. . . ADVOCATING Ignoring Laws that are considered 'old and outdated'? Just because it is done and always been done . .. don't make it right.

You say the Distinction is between People who are looking for work and those selling drugs. . .well previously you said DESPERATE PEOPLE . .so now . that has changed . . . To DESPERATE PEOPLE WHO BREAK THE LAWS I AM OK WITH THEM BREAKING BUT NOT THE DESPERATE PEOPLE WHO BREAK THE LAWS I DON'T WANT THEM TO BREAK

As for those Small Businesses . . .they are more Don't Ask Don't Tell .

You don't have an issue that it is EXPECTED?
So . .If we do this periodically .. what is the point of having a border?
    Why not open them up?

A person looking for manual labor is not comparable to someone selling drugs. Find a less ridiculous argument.
