This is what Feigen said this morning on chron.com in response to a reader's comment:

According to Phoenix newspapers..Barry is signing with the Rockets

(That is the assumption and it was written that way. He still has not told the Rockets that. -- Jonathan)

Just as I said. I will worry about this once it is a done deal, not speculation.

Sorry HayesFan the date on the article was today. I do read the blog and have done it for years, but could not remember if it was rumor or fact. I can't patrol the site all day like some. Its a fan site and news source. Relax.

I just get irritated with RealGm regurgitation posts. My apologies for sounding harsh.

No worries HayesFan. I do want to make a comment about Barry. I think alot of people are underestimating what he would bring to the Rockets. Yes, there is a risk with his age, but he will be better then Luther. He gives you great 3pt shooting and good but not great passing. When you take Tracy out, there is no one to make the entry pass to Yao. With teams fronting Yao you need a tall player that can see and pass over the defenders. Thats why Horry was great with Hakeem. If not the entry pass, how about in Adelmans system. A heady 6'7 guard to spell T-Mac for about 1.9 million sounds good to me. He may hurt a little on D, but makes up for it on the offense. So what if the Spurs don't want him anymore, they need to get alot younger then we do. Go Rockets!

I can see him as not the solution ( the third scorer) but a great replacemnet for the role of head. he can back up the point gaurd ( as he did a lot in seattle) , and is a great shooter. this makes jax, head, etc expandable.

Good responses to everyone, but factor in the fact that there were playoff games when Barry sucked big time and didn't even attempt a shot. A luther head upgrade isn't the difference in the rox beating utah. I agree with everyone that he is a big upgrade for head, but when teams tilt to mcgrady and front or physical Yao, is Barry going to make a play? I agree that Morey might not be finish and is playing it the patriot way. I've always thought that Barry is a late add to a team. I still have to wonder why a team like Sa don't want him. They have 3 legit scorers and they have been trying to get rid of him for 2 yrs or so.

Rileydog- I agree with relief during the regular season, but as you and I know, the post season is where Tracy really needs a break from ballhandling and scoring. If I'm going to give mcgrady a rest to knock his mins down to 33 or so and knock shanes down to 28-30, they will need to continue to add players.

The Landry deal, as a aggressive deal maker, you set the value and stick to it. Personally, 2.5m is his value with the knee issues and the fact that he can't beat out the starter. So yeah, if you spend up to your value you have of him and someone offers more, so be it. If he takes 2.6 from Indy instead of 2.5 from Houston, he wasn't the right guy ayway. If that the case and the rox sign Barry, they still have enough contracts to get another backup. I mean Barry makes head expendable. Head 1.7 and Francis 2.6 gets u a 5m player with the tea being over the cap. U can get Najera for less than that. U probably can get one of those guys from NJ for that also. One move can make another happen. That's all i'm saying.

I didn't mean thug in that sense, nor do I think the guy who called Horry a thug meant it that way either. If you use the definition of basketball 'thug' as an enforcer, a retaliator, a strong mean guy that other teams can point to as a reason for why NOT to abuse our players, then I think Dorsey fits that role better than Horry. And on a team with Yao, I think that role will be really useful. Juwan was sort of that guy two years ago, and Hayes last year although he did not play much.

sign Barry, and let Landry walk! Use Landry's MLE to sign a back up PG like Jannero Pargo, and get rid of head and b-jackson for someone like Webster from Portland

I think its only fair that Barry chose in a timely manner so the Rockets can see where they are and move on !! How long does Barry have to decide ?

Even if you set the value in your mind and stick to it, you don't tell what it is to your competitors. It's like showing your cards in a poker game. That's the dumbest thing Morey could do.

If you set it at 2.5 and let everybody know, people would just take him for 2.51. If you didn't tell the price, people would think twice before they give an offer. You would end up getting him a lot cheaper. Have you ever bought a car from slick car sales?

Besides, I think you are undervaluing Landry. Unless you are sure his knee is done, (in which case he would not even worth 2.5) I believe he is worth at least as much as Scola's underpaid salary.

I just heard from somebody that Sports 610 said on a News Flash, that Brent Barry told Phoenix that he will sign with Houston...

    ...Did anyone actually hear that?

    see posts above

I think Barry told Phoenix he will sign with Houston, however, he has not told anybody in Houston.

Who knows, maybe he was just giving Phoenix a lame excuse or whatever. There still a good chance he can sign just about anybody he wish.
