Decent deal for the Heat. I'd say there is a 90% chance they will cut him loose after 2 years. If healthy, James Jones will make teams pay for doubling on Wade. Should be a 15-20 mins/game guy off the bench who might get a lot of play in the 4th quarter. Has icewater in his veins shooting clutch FTs and corner 3s. He is also a genuinely good guy. With Jones, Wade, Beasley in the lineup and Riles moving off the bench back to the front office, I might actually root for the Heat.
With the free-agent signing period to commence at midnight, a five-year deal has been worked out with Jones, starting at $4 million for next season. The final three years of the contract would be conditional, to protect the Heat for the 2010 free-agency period. This doesn't make sense to me. Option years can only 1 year (team or player). What other conditional contracts are in the CBA? Contract details aside, James Jones is a good fit for that team. Decent role player and steady bench guy who plays to his strengths and doesn't try to do more. James Posey "light" in lots of ways.
I bet he plays under 70 games. Miami Heat's medical staff is poor. Shaq has done better with the Suns. Marion has done worse with the Heat. Jay Williams and Dwade have nagging injuries half the season. James Jones was p healthy when he was with the Suns top-notch sports medicine staff and trainers.
nothing big here. beasley and marion (if they keep him) will eat up all the minutes at the 3/4 spots. not to mention haslem spending sometime at the 4 as well.
Probably some version of a partially guaranteed contract. The CBA faq doesn't go into it that much, but there's a bit of info on partially guaranteed deals here: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#90
yeah so where does ricky davis go now? I'm not sure they can find him many minutes now with jones as backup at the 2/3 spot and Marion/Beasley/Haslem getting all those minutes at the 3/4. Maybe the Rockets should go after him?
well im sure haslem will be moved to the 5 because they dont have anyone there. but still, where does davis fit in when you count marion, beasley, and now jones? well they might play wade at the 1 and start davis at the 2, but i doubt it. wade said he doesn't want to be a point. i bet they try to keep him happy. davis for the MLE would be a great addition to the bench.
