He was traded by Philly to the Wolves to get under the cap, but the Wolves have tons of guys already at his spot. Link about trade I remember we were thinking about drafting him, and I believe he is Tmac's cousin..... Anyone think we should talk to Minny, maybe unload a 2nd round pick for him? 6'7" young athletic swingman just entering his prime DD
I was actually wondering why Daryl Morey didn't jump all over this proposed trade when he heard about it. Much like Minnesota, the Rockets have a trade exception large enough to absorb Carney's salary. Calvin Booth's salary could be absorbed automatically using the Minimum Salary Player Exception, plus the Rockets could have gotten a decent first round pick out of the deal. I think the Grizzlies' second rounder for next year that we got on draft night would be slightly more enticing than Minnesota's second rounder. The only explanations would be (a) the Rockets don't want to go into luxury tax territory even a little bit for such a mediocre deal and (b) Morey wants to hold onto that Memphis second rounder as a trade chip for the deadline, especially since that pick (which should be right at the front end of the second round) might actually be a BETTER trade asset than Philly's first rounder (now likely a late first rounder, meaning a larger guaranteed contract). That being said, I like Rodney Carney. Too bad he will be underused in Minnesota.
Having too many guys at one spot? There can NEVER be too many guys at one spot! Sincerely, The undersized power forwards of the Houston Rockets
Great points, and IIRC, the Rockets never have used their trade exceptions, they always talk about how valuable they are, and then let them expire. So, much for that value... DD
The wolves no doubt view Carney as an asset and won't be willing to part with him. It's Booth that's the "Stromile Swift" of that deal... Plus, what is it, 90 days before a player can be traded again?
I thought if it is just a one player deal they can be immediatly dealt or something like that....... DD
I think sometimes we lose sight of the big picture - It's not about a good fit, is he an upgrade over Luther Head? YES!!!!! I'll trade Luther for the sunglasses Juwan Howard stole a couple of years ago!!!!
Hmmmm........, let's see, Rodney Carney, Mike Miller, Rashad McCants, & Corey Brewer. I wonder what we could offer?
We are very close to the luxury tax and we still need to re-sign Landry and Deke and hopefully sign Barry. Those 2 contracts can hurt our cap flexibility and Carney didn't prove he is better than Luther even.
I thought he was just friends with Tmac's little brother. anyway...I'm not as high on Carney as i once was. He is one of those guys who has the quickness of a SG but the handles and perimeter skill of a PF so they stick him at SF. He's another of the Snyder/Green mold, i would like him on the team but he won't help more than a guy like Barry will.
I agree about Barry, if healthy......I would just like to have some guys at the end of the bench that are developing for the future..... Barry is going to be a very nice upgrade to our bench, if he signs, I just hope he stays healthy. DD
who isn't tmac's cousin? I think he is my primo too. =) if lior is on board, then our roster is set to go. no interest in carney here.
My general line of thinking is that you don't go for young high potential players in free agency or a trade. You usually get screwed. Why would a bad team give up a good young prospect for nothing? If you had to i would go for someone with great size like Dorrel Wright who's close to 6'9 or someone who can really shoot like C.J. Miles. I think Morey knows his stuff. The only way to get good young talent for a reasonable price is through the draft.
