Because he's cheap, big, and better than Luther Head.

Who in their right mind wouldn't prefer Maurice Evans as their 7th/8th/9th man over Luther Head?

Because the rockets have nothing backing up shane or tracy. Evans is big enough to be the backup 2/3, and give productive bench minutes every night. He is not starter material but an above average backup role player as he isn't great in any area, but is solid overall.

I'd like to have both him and barry off the bench.

I'd love both evans and barry to man the backup 2/3 along with retaining landry. One of the rockets biggest problems the last few years is shane and tracy wear down later in the year as they are playing too many minutes. They play too many minutes because there is no backup swingman on the roster.

    Luther Head
    6'3 178lbs
    mpg 18.9
    ppg 7.6
    rpg 1.8
    fg% 43.3
    3% 35.1
    ft% 81.5
    tpg 1.0
    apg 1.9
    spg 0.6

    Maurice Evans
    6'5 220lbs
    mpg 23.9
    ppg 9.3
    rpg 3.1
    fg% 48.9
    3% 39.6
    ft% 69.1
    tpg 0.6
    apg 1.0
    spg 0.6

At a salary of $1.8 million, I can tell you who I'd rather have.

Mo Evans is a wild athlete (no 1 ranked in his class) who is known as a tough defender and his 39.6% from 3-ball land is certainly 'good enough'.
He certainly gets to the hoop and finishes there - I wouldn't be shattered if we didn't get him, but he's certainly earned his place in the league.

The Rockets could go cheap and elect not to use the LLE, to save $2 million and have Luther Head shoot less than 20-29% every playoffs,

    or

they can sign Maurice Evans, a player who's percentages actually go up in the playoffs, and send Luther Head to the inactive list.

    or

they can sign maggette to the LLE, and give him a chinese shoe contract, if he ain't signed with Nike or somebody else yet.

Pietrus has more upside that other MLE signings. He is a great athlete who can play on both ends, though more inconstent offensively. It may very well be he does better out of Nellie's offensive focused system.

    Good signing by the Magic.

And no just because he has more talent/upside as a starter for Orlando doesn't mean Mo Evans would not be a fine bench addition for us.

Pietrus may be a bonehead, but he'll be a good fit on the Magic. They won't rely on his atrocious handles or passing. He just has to hit the three and play some D. As a fifth option on offense, his errors will be minimized.

great news! pietrus is way overhyped and certainly not a strong defender. he has all the tools to be one but he just doesn't have the smarts and the desire. his offense also is pretty average and he's not the shooter people people think.

can we sign mo evans now? :)

I think Orlando is going to see if Courtney Lee can play the 1 and supplant Jameer Nelson there. There sure doesn't seem to be room for Redick even if they do move Lee to the 1. If they don't move Lee to the 1, Redick is even further back on the backburner. DD, I'd still love to attain Redick somehow.

Can we trade Luther for JJ Redick now? The magic still need a third string PG and Luther's played more point than JJ ever will, sadly. They're both expiring contracts, so....maybe Redick can work in our offense?

    Hayes for Redick

The Magic have a PF rotation of Rashard and Brian Cook. That's two soft, perimeter players that hate to rebound. The Magic are clearly shopping Redick and between Harris, Hayes and Dorsey we definitely need to trim our roster down, in that regard.

Magic get their defense/rebounding. We get the shooting we need without sacrificing much.
