No one understands the intricacies of the politics over there like Biden does -- he can articulate better than any other politician on the subject. If Obama needs someone to explain why we have to stay (he will) - no one is better than Biden for doing just that.
I'm voting for Sam Nunn just because I like him but I don't think he has much of a shot. I'm not surprised that Webb is out and had the feeling he wouldn't be. My own feeling was that he wouldn't want to campaign so soon again and that the party would want him to stay in the Senate so that they wouldn't have to worry about that seat in a state that is still up for grabs like VA.
What is this business about staying? Obama has always said, as conditions merit, that he will start withdrawing within 12 to 18 months. That hasn't changed. Maliki today said that the status of forces agreement granting US forces permanent status in Iraq is dead and that he wants a deadline set for withdrawal. Iraq agrees with America; we both want this over. So it may be 18 to 24 months. So what? The point is we will start bringing people home. Like America wants. Like he always said we would. There's nothing contradictory here. Sorry Cheetah, didn't mean to pounce! Anyway, sorry Webb is out.
No surprise on Webb -- you can't be vetted and come up standing when you've written the type of racist, pedophilic trash that he has put out. The_Conquistador was right. Again. Webb knew he was a loser of a candidate, so he pre-empted the vetting and quit. Quitters quit. Either that, or he simply doesn't like Obama's chances and doesn't want to hitch his wagon to a loser. Webb knows that absent a racial slur by his opponent, he loses. Right now he'd be nibbling on arugala at his local vegan communal village and making the Egghead Nutlandia crowd feel good about themselves by touting his military background... not in the Senate being a part of the worst Congress in memory. Obama is running out of choices. Looks to me like it's down to Louis Farrakhan or Jeremiah Wright. He must lock down that elusive 2% of the remaining AA vote, and this is the best way to get there.
You can tell jorge has given up on McCain's chances - the bravado has given way to bitter resignation.
Batman, you keep posting the Veepstakes threads, and I'll keep posting Tony Zinni's name until it sticks. I voted Biden, because he's my number two choice and is much more likely to get picked.
