I would not want Marbury on this Rockets team. He's a locker room cancer and will disrupt the team's chemistry. Besides, even without the character issues, he doesn't fit into this team. Marbury has averaged 16 shots a game for his career, as opposed to Rafer's average of 10 shots a game. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective, and will take away touches from Yao and T-mac. I don't think he'll accept a role as a spot up shooter, and will whine and complain about it. Stay away from Marbury!
Actually, he's not even effective when he dominates the ball and gets his shots. I can't see why anyone would want a guy like Marbury on our team.
He's crap, period. Look, I agree with you wholeheartedly that this team has to make some pretty significant changes in order to step up to the championship level and bang with the big dogs. But this has to be done without wading through the NBA dung pile for guys like Starbury or the NBA looney bin for guys like Artest. We have been down this road before with your beloved CD and look where it's gotten this franchise. AND they didn't find an adequate replacement until Morey got Luis Scola last season. But wait! What about Charles Barkley you say? Exactly. Passed on Lewis: check. Got SF3 for peanuts: check. Traded the 2001 draft for Eddie Griffin: check. Spent 5 years in the NBA lottery only to have 1 player to show for it: check. Traded 3/4 of the team for Tracy "It's On Me" McGrady: check. Put together a team that hasn't gotten out of Round One of the playoffs since 1999: check. Yeah, that's one helluva record alright... EAAAA! Sorry Lee but the championship Rockets teams were put together by Steve Patterson. The closest CD got to a championship was when he passed the 2 trophies in the trophy case on his way to the office each morning to play GM. And I haven't yet called him every name in the book because if I did so, Clutch would ban me for using too much space on the board. Oh and his little "bomb" on Griffin set this franchise back 5 years. Then go ahead and pay the price. The Spurs have shown you what needs to be done. Just go ahead and do it and stop looking for shortcuts or the easy way out. They (Les & CD) made this mess, spent years making it and then pretended that nothing was wrong. All the while spinning their wheels, running through cheap, old or useless players and generally wasting YEARS. It may very well take longer than Tmac or Yao or anyone else wants but until they start doing what needs to be done, nothing is going to change. I agree with you about the Jazz. But getting Starbury solves nothing and would be the equivalent of what Lucas did to this franchise which was to very nearly destroy it. The very fact that you had to go back to John Lucas to talk about PG talent should tell you all you need to know about the way this franchise has been run.
http://www.nypost.com/seven/09122007/news/regionalnews/isiahs_a_bitch_to_work_for__ex.htm Oh yeah, this article tells us all we need to know. Marbury is the consumate team player and exactly the kind of guy you want representin your Houston Rockets! Go Starbury! oops the sarcastic meter is in the redzone.
I think there is a big difference between #1 option max contract starbury and vet minimum, see if he brings anything to our hurting pg spot, Stephon Marbury. Think of it like Bonzi Wells. He didnt do what he was supposed too, so he was benched and eventually traded. I dont think it hurts anything to give him a shot, to see if he can turn things around. Doesnt cost us anything.
I get tired of reading how good the Spurs FO is...it is such garbage IMO, what did the Spurs do exactly? Let's see how they got to where they are now......they TANKED on purpose with a healthy David Robinson sitting and won the lottery to draft Tim Duncan...yep....that is some good old fashioned planning....IT WAS FRICKEN LUCK...without Duncan, they would not have won any championships....so to me, while they are certainly a quality front office, they get far too much credit.....for what essentially is luck. And they took on Bowen, Finley, Horry, Stoudamire, and tons of other players that were at questionable points in their careers....because they figured they could fit in with a proper heirachy.....the same thing we are ASKING in this thread. And they let Scola go, Barbossa go, almost benched Parker for Kidd...they are certainly NOT perfect. How can getting Starbury RUIN this team, I hear you saying it but I don't see you proving it........ And, if he is cancerous as you claim, then CUT HIM....it is the very definition of low risk/High reward. DD
Skill wise Rafer isn't on the same planet as Marbury. As far as running a team, developing good chemistry and being dedicated to winning Rafer is easily superior to Marbury in that area.
Hillboy- So I'm assuming u wouldn't have traded for Mcgrady? I'm also assuming u wouldn't have traded for clyde or charles. To me the Rox are in the same boat as the were in 95. They have 2 stars at the end of their career. Neither Tracy nor Yao will play at a 1st team all nba level 3 yrs from now. In fct Yao has never been on that team and tracy hasn't been there in 5 yrs, that's the facts. I gave u the boom and bust of CD and all in all, the rox have more titles than every team in the history of the nba except for abou 5 or 6 teams. That happened under CD. I'm also betting that CD had nothing to do with the battier trade. Through his tenure, how many "safe" trades did he make. For the most part when he traded for a player, they were high risk, high impact players. I'm just going to say to all of you "safe" types, go to ur 9-5, make ur 50k and 30 years later get ur gold watch and live on ur fixed income. Meanwhile, i'll be traveling the bubble with my wife and kids, living debt free, and running a self running business in the caymans. The only difference between me and u is I'm a hunter, and ur not. I believe in hunting down and killing my success and being responsible for my family's well being as opposed to waiting on a stuffed suit to tell me about company cut backs. There is a price for greatess.
If it was as simple as what stevie did and Marbury did agree to a low contract than why not. I just dont see Marbury giving us that discount or even care enough to play on a winning team to waste too much time thinking about that scenario.
Sorry to interrupt your Spurs' hatin but 4 Larry O'Brien trophies speak for themselves. And to think: The Spurs managed to do this without benefit of the consumate genius that was Carroll Dawson. While he was leading the Rockets to 5 trips in the NBA lotto only to come away with 1 player, the Spurs were simply attending to the business at hand and actually going out and building themselves a championship team. Now, I realize that this is a foreign concept to you and yours considering what's been going on now for over 12 years around here watching our GM, owner and organization take turns sticking their heads up their collective asses but contrary to what you've heard other teams actually have a clue (except for Dallas where Mark Cuban remains as clueless as the day he came into the league). Well apparently, garbage or not, the Spurs have managed to win without seeing the need to go scrape the bottom of the NBA barrel to get the Starburys and Artests in the vain hope somehow, some way, these dillweeds will do for them what they haven't done for the other teams they've been on. Now, if 4 NBA titles are what you consider garbage then sign me up because in my book driving that garbage truck is light years ahead of watching the Rockets do their Round One Polka dance year after year. None of the players you mentioned were problematic to the degree of the bozos you want to bring in all the while hoping that just because the jerseys say Rockets, that alone will magically transform them into players that you can rely on to win a title. Questionable is one time - radioactive is another. Not trying to be mean here but exactly where have you been for the past oh 6 years or so? Because you sound like a guy who only learned about Starbury from watching his YouTube videos. If you think that in Starbury you are getting a guy like a Rafer or a Battier who'll care about this team and will actually believe (or pretend to believe) in what they are trying to get accomplished only with infinitely more talented, then you have missed the boat entirely. That ain't Starbury - not by any measure. Besides, if you never pick him, then there's no need to cut him - let someone like Dallas pick him up - I'm certain that he'll fit in great with Howard, Green and Cuban and they can go merrily off on their way into oblivion. BTW, be careful with that "they tanked to get David Robinson" argument because you open yourself up to those people who say the Rox have done the same thing on more than one occasion themselves.
Never ever! I personally am shocked this guy is even still in the NBA. He is the definition of damaged goods.
If I were morey , I 'll even trade Marbury here if he was no bought out ,using tmac's contract. After all Marbury's contract is 1 year shorter than tmac's .
Clyde, yes. Barkley, no. MeMac, probably not. I was lukewarm about that trade because I considered it to based on a faulty premise - that the rockets under CD would be able to "surround" Tmac with the proper role players. This was something that Dawson hadn't shown he could do for nearly 10 years. But I digress. And you are exactly right: they are just about at the place they were in 95 only this time, they don't have the rings to show for the effort. The clock is ticking very loudly the on Yao/McGrady experiment which has yet to achieve any measure of playoff success. But you have to start accepting the fact that 3 years from now they may be well into (yet) another major rebuilding job. This is the hand they have dealt themselves. To me, the hallmark of CD's trading legend starts and stops with Eddie Griffin. If he was such a trading "genius", then pray tell exactly where are all the players he found that should be in their 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th years forming the core of this team? Under his watch they were in how many NBA lottos? And just how many good solid players did he manage to find there? Now in the dozen or so years he spent looking for his ass in the dark, how many teams in the West have managed to overtake and pass the Rockets? You are 100% correct: There IS a price to be paid to achieve greatness but that does not include being foolish or stupid. I've seen enough of that from this organization to last a lifetime. Calm down O Mighty Hunter! I'm not opposed to what you are saying - I just believe in playing it smart and not safe. Going after NBA refuse like Starbury is not smart, it's more akin to suicide. But when an organization like the Rockets has been so stupid for so long, doing things the smart way may take some time to catch on.
one of a few times we almost agree entirely? lol. i said this in the nbs dish section. in the end, all it matters is if a player can ball. marbury definitely can and seems to have a lot left. if he can be had for cheap, why the heck not? this locker room or chemistry stuff is overrated a little. yes, having a group of nice guys who go along with each other is nice and helpful. but we haven't made it to the 2nd round for a decade. kobe never went along with any other lakers, yet they still 3-peat.
