Ok, the title is tongue-in-cheek. Also in no way do I think he is the next foreign super-star PG (ala Da Dakota) or even NBA-ready. However, he has been playing with "American talent" in the American Basketball Association and is eligible to be signed during this offseason. The Lakers hold his draft rights, but may not be able to sign him due to roster space.

The story behind Sun Yue is that he played for the Beijing AoShen Olympians, a team formerly in the Chinese Basketball Association. The Beijing team was banned from the CBA, and joined the ABA where it has competed against US third tier teams. Early on Sun Yue struggled as a 6'9 point guard on the Chinese national team (being eclipsed by another young prospect Chen Jianghua) and his struggles continued into the ABA. He broke out the 2006-07 year however, getting named to First Team All-ABA and averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds.

Anyways, I'm basically rehashing a lot of info that you can find in the links below. One comparison had Boris Diaw at best and Dermarr Johnson at worst.
Not a real solution, but an interesting prospect (financially as well) that may have fallen under the radar. (But he was T-Mac back in China!)

Not trying to be an ass here, but last time I checked people were complaining about how incredibly bad China's guards were, and he was struggling to get time?

    Let's just say I'm a little skeptical.

The guy cannot shoot AT ALL. Like not for an NBA player but for a basketball player in general, he's a terrible shooter. You can find a better shooter than him on any high school basketball team is what I heard.

I don't think that is what he meant. He meant that China's best PG's would likely be playing for the national team, and if those on the national team aren't very good. So If A, then B...Sue is not very good.

Wow, after seeing the title what a let down. The guy is still within grasps of the Lakers. If he is good they will not let him go, and plus we need a PG who can also shoot the 3.

He shot 30% from the 3's last season. Many young guys coming into the league can't shoot.

But he is going to the Lakers anyway. I heard the Lakers have offered him a contract.

I don't think people are been racist, its just Sun Yue is not at NBA level at this point of his career. He is a part of the old CNT regime of "lets get the tallest people possible".

    The good:
-He can rebound very well, and obviously his height is a asset
    - good passer.
    - gets a decent number of blocks due to his height
    - very athletic

    The bad:
    - Because of his size he has some trouble keeping up with faster PGs and the NBA guards play at a entirely different level.
    - Despite improvements his shot is still not very consistent.
    - Ball handling is also a major concern, quite turn over prone.

Pretty much sums up guard play for the CNT, guards with great size but lack the ball handling and shooting to utilize their position fully.
Defiantly could improve since he is still relatively young (according to official documents). In other words, would grow with NBA experience but would not help the Rockets at all since it will take a few years for he to be at the NBA level.

Sun Yue also averaged 3 blocks a game last season. He has already blocked Carmelo and Conley.

I think Barry is a SG rather than a PG like his brother Jon.
If you want an international PG , I suggest Papaloukas from Greece,You know Greece is the champion of euro,Papaloukas is the real core of their national team instead of Spanouris.

What's more , Papaloukas is just the style we want , he is a good deffender with strengh and size, spirite as well .His shot range is off the NBA 3pt line ,and he is a great playmaker.

Of course , it shouldn't be easy to get him from his euro club or he would have played in NBA for a long time by now.Whether get him or not mainly depend on how much money morey is willing to spend on him, who is no longer younger but can still improve our team.
IN a word ,I want Papaloukas.

Sun is a very interesting prospect. He wasn't good enough to make the Lakers squad but may have developed since that time.

He would have been perfect for the 3rd option: can create his own shot, for his teammates, can shoot, can penetrate, can dunk!
