If the 2007-2008 draft was done today, how high would Landry go?

I think he's a top 10 draft pick myself. Maybe even top 5. I would put him behind Horford, Durant, Scola and take him at 4 or 5.

Here's a funny quote from Bill Simmons
    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080305

Bill Simmons (I like him!) does the ol’ hypothetical draft do-over in his basketball bag and puts Landry in the lottery(!):

Q: Seriously, if they did the draft over again … I mean, you have to admit, I’d go in the top 10, right? I was the hidden gem of the 2007 draft. Everyone thought I was 6-foot-7 when I’m really 6-foot-9. Everyone was worried about my torn ACL in college when my knee was fine. Everyone called me an undersized power forward when I was really the only true power forward in that entire draft. Even your boy Chad Ford gave the Rockets a D-plus after last year’s draft. Now I’m the X-factor for the Rockets as we make our push to replace the Giants as the latest Ewing Theory team. So where would I go if they did the draft over again?
    –C. Landry, Houston

A:…That brings us to Chicago at No. 9. Joakim Noah’s been OK, but he’s an energy/intangibles guy and they already have plenty of those. You know what, Carl Landry? I think you go right here. The Bulls need a true power forward and you have a higher ceiling than Noah does.

Ah well then scratch Scola. I still think he's should be right between Horford and Conley.

According to his college record he would maybe go in the mid twenties...not much lower....HE IS STILL UNDERSIZED WITHOUT a JUMPSHOT!

Noone knows if he will get any better honestly....he was surprising but still inconsistent.

Maybe his jumpshot and D was inconsistent, but it wasnt from a lack of effort at least. Just ROOKIE growing pains on the job. Landry showed good touch and form on his jumper there's potential there...and really he was only inconsistent after the injury.

There's a lot of power forwards that arent 6-11. Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand, David West, Kenyon Martin, Josh Smith, David Lee, Ben Wallace C/PF, then guys like Paul Millsap, Brandon Bass...it helps to have height but it also helps to be good along with it.

If we are going simply on how he was projected coming out of college, i'll say 1st player in the 2nd round.

SHROOPY I would personally trade Landry for any of the guys on that list and its too early to say a consistently GOOD player....sorry but I want the rockets have a better threat than Landry has been so far.

If he could shoot as well as he DUNKS I wouldn't mind sabotaging our payroll but so far he's a QUARTER year wonder...not worth the trouble yet.

Really? I wouldn't trade him for Brewer, Noah, or Hawes.

You do realize that some of those guys were drafted on potential and can still be super-stars...this draft was last year...These guys still need time to develop. Landry is at least 2 years older than some of the lottery picks

    I say #1.

Let Morey call John Paxson and trade Landry for Derrick Rose. ;)

Yep. The reason Landry fell then is the same reason he would have fallen in any draft. His knees are highly suspect. They still are.

I understand that and that is why i did not include Conley, Green, Yi, and Wright on the top 10 picks that I wouldn't trade Landry for. I was surprised last year when Brewer went so high as I do not see a whole lot of potential in him although I still see him as a decent wing off the bench in the future. Noah IMO is a good hustle player with not a lot of upside and I believe Landry has more upside than him. Hawes really hasn't shown any indication of being anything special so far and I view him as a average big man in the future. IMO the Kings drafted big men way earlier than they should have been selected for 2 straight drafts.

Based on what we have seen last season, I see Landry as a late top 10 pick. But at the time of the draft, #31 was right where he should have been.

I think the premise is that if we knew then what we know today he would not have been picked at 31.

how do you not like corey brewer? he is a great defender (much better than landry), doesn't have suspect knees, and has higher potential. I would trade landry for #8 and down any day. I don't like joakim noah...and i would think about it pretty hard core for spencer hawes. I'd trade landry for al thornton in a heartbeat

I think he will be a decent player and is a good defender but I don't see a whole lot of offensive potential in him. He can be a Battier type defender in the future but I think his offensive potential is limited even compared to Battier. I see him as a solid role player off the bench on a good team. I'd take my chances with Landry rather than Brewer.

I would also trade Landry for Thornton without hesitation.

Can definitely understand not shelling out big dollars. Its no big deal but you have a definition of consistency and I have my own. I'm just saying Carl Landry's 30 games of good play (jump shot or not) beats other rookies 80 games of mediocrity. I'm not gonna go all cheapo and hold random things against him like jumpers and lack of shot creativity trying to make him look like Mike Harris, marginalizing the good things about Landry's play.

I didnt proclaim Landry to be top 3 in his draft class anyway. I mentioned his inconsistencies on D, his jumpshot, can add in free throws, and of course his injury. He is what he is at this point - an energy spark off the bench and good finisher. And that might be all he'll ever be. There's rookies NOT on that list I'd trade him for.

Still in my opinion the criteria used against him, when including ALL ROOKIES it doesnt do much to damage him. What other big players from that list have a reliably good jumper? Landry shot .616 from the field. Yi Jianlian with his coveted jump shot hit .421...Landry was 2nd team All Rookie, no Corey Brewer in it. Spencer Hawes and Brandan Wright didnt even get a vote. And his dreaded jump shot if you're to watch it, its evident he has good form on it. I'm not gonna turn it into a Chuck Hayes never-can-happen shot.

Obviously his knee is still a question, so there is still a red flag there. He has played a year, so I dont think you can really say his knee is fine yet. great surprise player this year, hopefully he continues to grow and become a star in this league, but as of right now i think he would have been drafted maybe top 10, top 20 though for sure.

With his serious knee issues he would be a late round flyer at best.
