Is Forbes actually playing on our roster? Seems to me he my have signed on with the Wizards. That would be a shame, as I'd really like to see him play for and possibly make our team.
I'm not really sold on Forbes at all... He strikes me as a volume shooter who scores a lot of points because he takes a lot of shots... But I'm TOTALLY basing that analysis of his career stats Hopefully I'm wrong and it's more that he was the only scoring option - got pressured into tough shots and forced it up sometimes out of pure frustration. But his %s are pretty ugly...
most likely none of these kids will make it to the rockets training camp invite, so it wont matter anyway. Players with good agents know that rockets roster is full and will look to go to other teams to try to get a better chance of making it. Basically I'll be surprised if even one of the kids get an invite to training camp.
Landry isn't on the list. Guess he's not signed so he's not on or they consider him to have proven himself in the season last year.
I can't edit it seems, so I should say not a bad player at all for a mid level Euroleague team in Italy. No idea how he would handle the NBA.
Is Loren Woods the oldest player ever to compete on a summer league team? He's freakin 30 years old playing with a bunch of rookies, NBDL'ers, hopefuls, and majority less than 2 years experience. Talk about treading water.
I hope the Rockets will somehow keep Woods. For 1 million, I think the bang for the buck of Woods is so much better than Diop. Great value here.
Here is some info I was able to dig up on some of the new guys who were invited to camp. I think we have a few that will make the team, other than our draftees: Donte Greene - Strengths: A long and versatile player that possesses tremendous perimeter skills ... An athletic specimen with enormous potential ... Deadly out of the triple threat, where he utilizes jabs and pump fakes to attack the opposition ... A shot maker with the ability to convert on a variety of acrobatic and off-balance shots ... His skill, athleticism and size make him a difficult match up ... His leaping ability and body control allow him to finish over and around people in the lane ... He possesses a terrific spin move ... Also shows great form and range on his shot ... Shows a nice pull up off the dribble ... He's willing to mix it up in the post where his repertoire is growing, has a nice right mini-hook and a very effective fade away ... Has a good feel for the ball, combined with his length make him a dangerous shot blocker as well as a disruptor in the passing lanes ... Attacks the offensive glass aggressively ... Joey Doresy - Strengths: A physical specimen type of interior force ... Very aggressive, strong and explosive ... Does all the dirty work, cleaning the boards and defending ... Simply overpowers a lot of players on the college level with brute strength and athleticism ... A tremendous rebounder, averaging more rebounds than points per game (9.6 rpg as a junior), and really hits the offensive glass hard where he averages nearly as many offensive rebounds as on the defensive end.. . Runs the floor well and plays at a high intensity level ... An improving shot blocker (2.2 bpg) who also alters opponents shots ... His great length and leaping ability make him a load for opponents to contend with on both ends of the floor ... Has shown some improvement in his skill level, though he'll likely never be much of an offensive player ... Capable of some rim rattling dunks and attacks the rim with ferocity ... Russel Robinson - Strengths: Plays smothering on the ball defense ... He best attribute is by far his defense ... Second in steals behind Mario Chalmers with 76, but Chalmers plays the passing lane more while Robinson stays more on the ball pressuring the ball handler the entire length of the court ... All Big 12 Defensive first team ... Led the team in assists his first full year running the team with 152 ... Shows the ability to run the PG position ... Honorable Mention All Big 12 selection ... Third on the team in scoring at 9.3 ppg. Decent rebounder for a PG, hauling down thee boards a game ... Heady player, makes good decisions with the ball ...His excellent assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.08 was good for second in the Big 12. Maarty Leunen - Strengths: Has turned into one of the top inside/outside threats on the college level ... At his best playing around the basket where he uses his polished post skills and face the basket skills to exploit both bigger and smaller defenders ... Good feel for the game. Does the little things to help his team win. A true warrior. Plays with a lot of toughness, heart and determination ... A solid athlete, though his athleticism will be below average on the next level ... Has really developed as a shooter and become a dangerous 3 point shooter (41/99) as a junior ... Solid rebounder who positions himself well and battles for loose balls ... Does a good job of setting picks and popping or rolling ... Has excellent vision and is very tough to double and force into turnovers, usually can find the open man. 2.1 assists per game are great numbers from a post player ... Could find a spot on an NBA roster as an energy bench guy ... A solid defender who creates a lot of turnovers on sheer hustle ... Joseph Jones - Strengths: Bigman with a huge frame and great body strength ... Classic PF who plays back to the basket ... Has some developing post moves and scores well on big, strong opponents ... Already has a developed mid range jumpshot with excellent touch out to 12-15 feet ... Very good at scoring in the low block, great touch ... Finishes well after contact ... Very tough, does not get outmuscled or intimidated ... His soft hands and long arms make him a terrific rebounder ... Has good vision and passing skills ... Very mature player, plays to his strengths, doesn't try to do too much ... Knows how to seal his man and creates a big target posting up ... Great at drawing fouls and converting from the free throw line ... Has good body strength and appears as though he can add another 15 pounds of muscle ... Ball handling is good for a post ...
Darn, missed Gary Forbes; Strengths: Versatile wing with good combination of length and athleticism ... The Panama native has a good feel for the game and shows strong leadership skills ... His ball handling ability is especially impressive for a wing ... Never over-penetrates, makes good decisions and leads the break well ... Solid athlete with good defensive ability. His positive A/TO ratio is testament to his high basketball IQ ... Athleticism is decent, although not out of this world ... Adept scorer who uses his ball handling ability well to get to the basket. Midrange game is polished ... Has great size to play the SG position at the next level ... A smart, mature, experienced player who should be ready to contribute right away at the next level ... Works hard on his game and has shown marked improvement in his free throw and outside shooting ...
