Scenario: you own a restaurant, and Rockets are in the Finals.

If you have TVs, can you put the Rockets games on in your restaurant, or do you have to ask for permission?

2nd, can you advertise telling people to come to your restaurant to watch the game?

    Thanks

Any "rebroadcast or retransmission" requires the "express written consent" of the league.

Not to worry, no one has ratted out all of those sports bars that are doing it every day of the year.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure that is just referring to people copying the games and showing them later. Watching the game on cable you have paid for shouldn't be a problem.

You can't charge people to watch the game itself, but I don't see why you couldn't advertise that you're showing it in order to attract people to your bar.

True, because regardless, the Team, League, Sponsers are potentially making more money by you showing this than not.

    I was being sarcastic...

It is perfectly legal for him to show the game in his restaurant, hence my reference to every sports bar in the nation televising games.

No issue broadcasting the game in your bar.

If you advertise using the rockets logo or the players' likenesses for the game, that could be copyright infringement or unauthorized exploitation of celebrity likeness for commercial benefit. What if T-Mac was a recovering alcoholic and didn't want to be associated with alcohol? A lot of celebrities have that in their contract.

Realistically, it's probably allowed, but if you set up "Free Tibet" night and use Yao's likeness prominently to promote the event, I'm pretty sure you'll hear from his lawyers.
