McCain's campaign attacks Gen. Clark's military record

So you took a discussion between two random internet posters discussing a hypothetical possibility of what the Obama campaign might have been thinking and decided that the Obama campaign is using a slimy technique.

And we wonder why the quality of Presidential campaign dialogue is so bad.

 

Am I the only one who saw Clark's comments as spot on and not "attacking"? It's like people gasp whenever a "war hero" is criticized -- hasn't the anti-Obama camp been complaining about this re: Obama?

 

No, you aren't the only one. I was disappointed that Barack chose to "distance himself" from Clark's comments, which were in response to a direct question from an interviewer. Clark had a good point. Sadly, even if it was predictable, that point is being lost in a sea of negative BS. Not only from the GOP, but from Obama and some of his supporters.

Obviously, Clark needs to learn not to say what he thinks and be more of a politician. (sigh)

General Clark has thrown himself headlong into this election. He's fair game now.

We need to know everything available about McCain's military service. We definitely need to know what kind of officer he was. We don't need snarky comments from a general whose last assignment was marked by horribly dangerous decisions and insubordination, and whose post-military career has been full of look-at-me political statements.

Caveat (although it should be obvious): Wes Clark has a right to say whatever he wants. He's an independent citizen and entitled to his opinion and speech to anyone that will give him the time of day. But it would do Obama and the Democrats well to distance themselves from him. Wes Clark is summer's Jeremiah Wright.

 

Since he is the only politician I've ever given money to, I have to disagree. But that is neither here nor there. If you want to start a discussion on General Clark, perhaps a dedicated thread would be a good place.

If you have any particular problems with what General Clark actually said, perhaps you should start there. Attacking the messinger to avoid discussing the message is so George Bush.

 

I've never bought into the idea that Obama is a new type of politician but I don't know if this actually a tactic by the Obama campaign or Clark making a statement that has blown up on him. I was just commenting on A3PO's take.

 

I don't think what Clark said was necessarily wrong but it was his delivery that came off as being hostile. A lot of people said the same thing about John Kerry's military service and they were right that his service doesn't automatically qualify him to be president but it is another part of the overall package of the candidate.

obama's a freakin presidential candidate, he ain't out there explaining clark's comments. this is stupid

 

I have a feeling this is the kind distraction the Dems want. McCain and Clark punching each other does McCain no good.

Anyway, I doubt Clark will have much more to say on this since Obama dissed his comments.

 

Good point. If the voters don't connect Clark to Obama, it could be a good way to tear down McCain.

 

obama would be stupid to come out and say something like this or even back it. by denoucing it, he gets to have it thrown out there, and play the bigger man.

Yeah, making fun of someone being a POW is a good way to win an election. Gosh, I wonder why Clark didn't get the nomination last time.

Clark stating something to the effect of: "I don't see how getting shot down over Vietnam enables someone for public office" ...is full of problems...

 

I agree Clark was out of line and that Obama did good to distance himself, but what exactly is wrong with Clark's premise?

 

That's right. So I'm way more qualified than McCain to be commander in chief.
