I applaud the U.S. trying to prevent any food borne illnesses to their athletes.

    Nothing wrong with that.

None at all. I bring my own food to work all the time. They should be able to as well.

it would be funny if the food they bring are tainted like the tomatoes and screw up their athelets. plus don't farmers here raise chicken, pigs, beef with bad food that may taint meat later?

oh, i did find that treating guests with a good meal incredibly important in chinese culture when i went back a few weeks ago. i guess i knew it all along, but having been in US for past decade and half, i kind of forgot how important it is. people are serious about treating guests with good food. so it's not surprising that they are offended.

i did get sick last year when i went back after eatting in some shady place. but this year, i stayed in big fancy restuarants and not sick at all.

    WTF?!?!? Really?

    I agree.

WTF, U.S. and A.??? Too good to eat CHINESE food? Freakin' snobs... way to disrespect the hosts, you a-holes  .

EDIT: I will withdraw my insults to the representatives of the United States. No need to stoop to their offensive level.

Reminds me of one of my favorite movies of all time:[rquoter]Narrating: As is the Chinese cook's custom... my mother always insults her own cooking... but only with the dishes she serves with special pride.
"This dish not salty enough. No flavor. It's too bad to eat. But please-- Oh!"
Narrator: That was our cue to eat some...and proclaim it the best she'd ever made.
"You know, Lindo... all this needs is a little soy sauce." [sprinkles salt on the dish]
    " Oh! Uh, oh. :( "
    [/rquoter]Name that ^ movie (difficulty: moderate) ;)

You are hypersensitive to think whoever holds a different opinion is hypersensitive.

Could it be worse than the oil we use to make the french fries?

The Chinese should come back and give a reassuring statement regarding the quality of their food and water to comfort the olympiads if they are confident about the food they are serving.

I too have gone to asia and have gotten some severe cases of diarrhea. Though I have never been to China.

i had no problems in Japan or Singapore but Malaysia was not so clean.

You won't find Sweet and sour pork in Beijing because it is not Chinese food. It was invented in US for the Americans.

This isn't about a little case of diarrhea on account of ill prepared food. This is about a Chinnese athlete testing positive for steriods on account of some tainted pork and recieving a lifetime ban.

No amateur athlete should risk the consequences of a positive test just to appease some Chinnese nationalists.

The Beijing Olympic Committee was critised by the Chinese netizens last year over the special treatment of the food that will be supplied for the Games. It is said that the chicken and pigs are raised in secluded locations eating Organic Food. Trust me, there will be an uproar on the Chinese BBS once this news breaks out. People will not be angry at the Americans. But they will be at the Chinese Government.

You make it sound like this is a big state secret that PRC government is trying to hide from the public. I bet the majority of the Chinese who support hosting of the Olympics wouldn't have had a problem with it had they known or not. Athletes competing in the Olympics, whether they are domestic or foreign, are considered special in some way.

Are you saying that the people who believes that the move is an overreaction are Chinese nationalists?

As the thread starter, you owe it to everyone of us to clarify your point here.

It's pretty ignorant to think only Chinese dish is served in the Olympic village.
