I have no problem giving him part of the MLE, but if he wants a full MLE deal, I'd strongly consider a sign/trade of him and/or move on to different options.

I don't think Landry will get a full MLE deal from anyone, but Landry's agent will be shooting for it, esp if it's up to him to have other teams set the market.

I think a healthy Landry is definitely worth the MLE, but the rockets shouldn't just bend over and give it up for him.

That would suck ass, but I don't think that happens. I could be wrong, but I don't think Landry is that much of a b****.

Is he really a good defender? Then why did the lakers trade him and Brian Cook for Ariza who can't even shoot?

I like him, he would be an upgrade to Luther in every way.

Well, there are news that says that Spurs and Celtics have offered Maggette the MLE.

If they can, then why we cant.

I didnt say that the Rockets should have signed either Arenas or Baron. I said that Rockets should try to get a third scorer cuz the west is getting a lot stronger and they need to get better in addition to be a great contender.

KG, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Celtic championship legacy

    Or

Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, multiple championships in the last 10 years

    Then you have

Yao Ming's injury problems and Rockets yearly 1st round playoff failures

Sure, he take an early vacation in May, but he can do that with any playoff bust not just Houston. If he is going to take a below market MLE salary, he is going to aim for the most attractive team and a championship ring.

Ariza is 6'8 and can guard taller 3s.

Evans is great at keeping his feet and staying in front of guards.
He's also strong, so he uses his body to check and doesn't reach with his hands.

But you're not looking at him to stop someone like Lebron or Maggette or Artest. Those guys who are big and tall are too much of a matchup for him. In theory, that's what Ariza is for.

    Spurs are declining.

Celtics, he may have a lot of chances to win, but he wont get a lot of minutes cuz they have Pierce and Allen.

nobody said the rockets can't, but if you are maggette why do you choose houston over san antonio and boston?

he will get his minutes on any team he feels.

Mo Evans is a solid player. Definitely not world-altering or anything but he's a decent all around player that can fill both wing spots. Definitely an upgrade over Luther.

evans may not be a great player but i would think most of us would rather have him than luther and that what really matters is just getting better

I have seen Evans play and have seen him play a lot as I watch a lot of magic games.

He is not a good defender. He is not a good offensive player. He will be the same as Luther Head, but taller. And won't ever be used as point guard.

Maurice Evans stats bear it out. He has a negative +/-.

But I do agree that free agency has nothing much out there. I just will have to put my hopes in a trade that will bring us what we need as opposed to a bandaid player like Maurice Evans who is merely an upgrade to Luther Head.

how the magic won with evans and bogans as their 2 guards is beyond me and nelson as a pg is vastly overpaid

I'm going to agree with Little O, here. Evans had a reputation as a solid defender when he landed in Detroit, but he was by far the worst defender on the team. Offensively he did nothing except take the corner 3 and occasionally get an offensive rebound and putback. Most Piston fans were extremely happy when he was dumped.

I like his game. As long as the price is reasonable, he'd be a good pickup.

I think if Evans will immediately sign for the LLE you do it and withdraw your offer to Barry. Then as far as FA's are concerned you have to wait on the Landry situation.

Hopefully you can pull off a trade that will net you more than Evans or Barry. Having Evans is insurance that at least you have upgraded backup SG even if you have to spend all of the MLE on Landry. If you have money left over with the MLE you go get the best possible option with the remaining money. It might be Barry, it might not be.

    Another question I have:

I believe that if you want to avoid the same issue with Dorsey that we are having with Landry you have to use part of the MLE to sign him for more than 1 year, is this correct? If that is correct, then it makes it even more important to land Landry for less than the MLE and to use our LLE on a for sure upgrade like Evans at backup sg.
