How do you guys figure Bynum can't command a max salary? Do y'all know the kind of contracts "decent" big men get? That's not considering 7 foot 20 yr olds with tons of potential (supposedely). Someone will pay that kid....
He deserves the max, the guy is gonna be better than Shaq, Kareem, Duncan, and Robinson.. combined. He should pretty much just go out and make a league of his own cus God knows the NBA is too easy for him.
I hope his logic holds. What could be better than an Andrew Bynum signed to the max? MMMMMM nuttin. He's their Cato and Mo-Tay combined.
he may not be worth the max but what's wrong trying? he's gonna want to make as much money as he can and not care about winning at this stage of his career that's for sure and there's nothing wrong with it.
1) this is negotiation, his agent's job is to let him sign the biggest contract possible. It doesn't matter what he's really worth now, it's what kind of agreement he and Lakers can find 2) the only reason Bynum can't really command max money is because of his injury. He was going to have a 16-11 season, likely, and those numbers in a player so big and so young and improving, are worth BIG bucks in the NBA, no matter what you people might think. Every year we read crap about big men not being worth what they're signed to... if it happens every year, might it be that some people don't understand how the market works?
Good for him I hope he gets the max and then decides to start a diet eating Crispy Creme donuts everyday. A young big especially with "potential" always gets a large payday. Look at all the bigs that are overpaid in the NBA Example: MoTay, Cato, Dampier, KMart, Nene, Foyle, Big Ben, Blount, Kwame, Curry, Randolph, Jerome James, LaFrentz, Magloire, Okafor *Plus anything to cause dissent on the Lakers is awesome.
"I don't think the Lakers have anything to worry about with Andrew's physical condition," Lee said. "The only thing is he wants to stay in the purple and gold. It's in their court." nothing to worry about his physical condition?!?!? uhh... hello, how many guys this guy missed last year???!! This agent must be related to landry's agent.
Only because he's been dead to the NBA on the injured list. If he could somehow come back to life, he'd be a great asset. We'll see. I think it's not hard to say that the Raptors will be better this year than last. Then it's easier to say that O'Neal the "ghost" was instrumental.
I agree 100%. It's just a publicity stance to make Bynum look good here. "Oh, Bynum is the good guy who really wants to play for the Lakers regardless of money but his agent is the greedy bad guy who wants the max." Whoever buys into this needs a CT scan between their ears.
I haven't read past the first few responses on page 1, but I'm a bit lost as to why everyone thinks this is so outrageous. I don't think he's the next Kareem or anything, but he's a 20 year old, skilled 7 footer. Those don't grow on trees.
Thank you for confirming that O'Neal has been a ghost. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, I hope it does he was one of my favorites on that Pacers team.
max money is for franchise caliber players. at least is supposed to be. bynum is far from that. ain't gonna happen. the lakers fron office is shrewd. they are not stupid.
Laker's board Bass is so generous that he intend to share his money with all the poor boards like morey's ,He may be more generous than cuban. I don't think Bynum deserve the maximum, at most he deserves a Middle level.Provided Bass gave Bynum maximum ,then hou much would he gave to sasha and turiaf? I even consider Landry more valuable than Bynum. Bynum 'd better go back to NCAA and ask for the max from a colleage team.
I disagree. The max is just an artificial ceiling on salary. Franchise players who make the max are just underpaid. You don't have to be as good as Lebron James to be paid as much money as he is. In a free market, he'd make a lot more, but the market is not free. If a guy has the same utility to the team as 2 $7 million players, he should probably be paid $14 million, even if that's the max.
