The Dynamo play Charleston in their first Open Cup game this year. It will probably be a mostly reserve team playing so the result could go either way.

There won't be any TV for the game but the Battery will be streaming it usllive.com.

Isn't this what happened last year? Play a USL team with reserves and get knocked out of the Cup. It's almost as if they want to lose.

I'm not saying that it isn't more or less important. Any hardware is nice to bring home. How about winning a double?

We have a league game on Thursday so we have to decide which is more important. In the grand scheme of things we can lose on Thursday and still make the playoffs, whereas if we lose Tuesday we're out of the competition. Also, winning the Open Cup can be much easier than MLS Cup if you go up against a lot of USL teams.

That would make it seem like we'd put more effort into the Open Cup, but as RocketFan007 pointed out nobody really takes the Open Cup seriously until the final.

Well, we lose in penalty kicks.

Nice goal at the end to tie it, but it was never meant to be.

This team needs to WAKE UP... ((((NOW)))) and beat Real Salt Lake and DC United in the games in July and need to win SuperLiga pool games against DC United, Atlante and Chivas of Mexico. As a Dynamo fan, you have to start to "panic" as this team hasn't really played one complete game all season but probably at Robertson Stadium vs Toronto FC.

Was exciting to watch though I had to watch without volume (at work).

Was hoping we could score when they were down 2 players.

I knew we were in trouble in penalties because their goalie was sharp during the game and was given a lot more business than ours.

Exactly, although I don't think that this game is testament to that as there were a lot of subs. This team has been hurt by, in my opinion, three things so far:

    1. The situation at forward.
Sure, De Ro has looked good as of late when paired up top with Ching, but the shuffling that went on early in the season really caught us off guard and showed our vulnerability with Ching acting alone (Caraccio has been a ghost). Although there were rumors about Joseph Ngwenya and Nate Jacqua interested in returning, I've heard (per Glen Davis) that the only rumor that may have legs is the one concerning Jacqua. We miss his size in the box dearly.

    2. The back up goal-keeping
Tony Caig has cost us games. Sure the Zach Wells for Bobby Boswell deal seemed nice, but Caig has played a lot more than I thought he would (mainly during Pat's injury absence earlier in the season). He looks completely lost and off of his lines when on the field, however, there have been games when he actually looks like a goalkeeper. We used to have confidence that Zach Wells had Pat's back and that even our back-up goal keeping could keep us in games. However, with Caig in goal, it seems like every time a team breaks our back line, they can more than likely score on Tony.

    3. Injuries/Suspensions/Call Ups
We've been decimated thus far with people out. I can't even list how many guys we've lost for substantial amounts of time due to injury. And naturally, call-ups are something that every MLS team has to deal with do the timing of schedule, so there's really nothing that can be done (except be confident in your depth, which we've been lacking this year). However, most glaring, are suspensions and in particular those of Eddie Robinson. Although I think the two-game suspension that was increased by MLS after the Dallas incident was harsh, Robinson's inability to check his emotions during the game has really hurt us. It's insane to think that one of the starting players on the defending MLS cup champs - and a key one at that - can be so short sided. Ricardo Clark has also been guilty of this, both because of his actions and because of the bewildering actions of MLS, but he seems to have cooled off in comparison to Eddie.

I'm still confident that we can click and peak at the right time. It's amazing that we are in second place in the Western Conference and only two points behind the Los Angeles Beckhams. It may just be a testament to how weak the West is, but we're still there and come play off time, I think we can take on the West and beat whatever the East can throw at us (which, if the season ended today, would be New England :p ). I hate to keep saying this about everything concerning the Dynamo, from on-field play to stadium negotiations, but let's wait it out and eventually, everything will be made right.
