February right after the All Star break. Not sure about the date. DD, you should email Morey and convince him to try to get VSpan again. Especially if he does well in the Olympics.
i'd be all for acquiring one of hinrich, mo williams, felton via trade, or signing a guy like duhon, udrih, carlos arroyo, or shaun livingston with part of the MLE.
It is a sad fact that we have a lot .. and I mean a lot of PGs in our team but none of them are really good that can contribute significantly in playoffs. It is kind of dilemma whether we should get a PG when we have a PG position glut (similar to last year). If we can get rid of BJackson, I would be glad to see us get one in return but we need to get a real good one and not just a PG. Otherwise, it's going to be last year where the new PG is outperformed by Rafer and has to play from the bench.
I feel your pain DD. We still need a 3rd scorer, bench upgrade but yeah, pg needs to be upgraded AS WELL. Right now we can talk to Charlotte, Sacramento, and anobody else about a potentional trade. We need to change our PG, maybe that and health will lead us to something more than 1st round.
We should have a very serious look at these PGs! Javaris Crittenton -- Our Rondo Raymond Felton -- Up and coming In that order. shouldn't be too hard to get as those teams have much better starter PGs now and they are redundant in those teams. What ever we do, I do not wish to see Rafer starting for us by the All-Star Break! (Actually I'd want to get rid of Rafer right now like in a S&T for JR Smith or something)
Maybe Morey got something under his sleeve...its puzzling that we only go for Brent Barry in the free agency and he's not goin to be that 3rd scorer...maybe he can trade for a young and attacking PG/SG that could help Alston...it's only the start of the offseason
I think the Rockets are looking at Barry as their first wing player off the bench. Barry considered moving away from the Spurs for a bigger role and that's what the Rockets sold him several months ago. They also need to keep their MLE intact in case another team does offer Landry the full MLE. That's going to take a while. Landry is going to wait for a full MLE deal until all the money is gone before accepting whatever the Rockets offer him.
we need to keep landry, sign barry, and trade for a legit point, who can actually shoot a high percentage or isn`t afraid to take it to the rim, felton would be nice, but not sure about his fg%, hinrich would be nice, but not sure about his fg% either. we really need a pg who can shoot, handle the rock and play sufficient d. don`t know much about the pg`s from memphis, mayo will probably play the 2 and conley will play the 1, and lowry and critterion really don`t seem like an upgrade from rafer. as of now, rafer is probably better than what`s available, we need to put together a package that other teams can`t refuse. crawford would be nice. NY probably won`t let him go because he`s he the only player that can play within d`antoni`s system. mo williams is overrated, a good player on a crappy team.
I dont know...Rafer won me over last year. And there is no one who is available who i think can run the team as well.He just doesnt need to be the third scorer. And i still believe a healthy steve will be a great backup.Hes tuff and has the heart we need.
I have no problem with Rafer running the team at all, it is the ENORMOUS amount of shots he takes for such a CRAPPY shooter. He takes the 3rd most shots......and he sucks at it. Part of the reason is that someone has to take the 3rd most shots and the other part of the reason is that teams know Rafer sucks at shooting and don't bother guarding him at all. So, not only is he a sucky shooter, but he is a sucky shooter...when WIDE FRICKEN OPEN..... We need a better shooting option at PG to punish those teams that do that....basically all of them....... DD
i still don't understand how people can discredit rafers effectiveness as a starter. Especially, considering that he is on the court with tmac/yao and the rest of the starting lineup. Rockets need a PG, but an tempo changing, more offensively aggressive backup would be a better fit for the second unit than rafer. WHen yao/tmac are resting why would you supplement the second unit with rafer, who isnt a great offensive threat? Oh yeah, you wouldnt. "enormous"? nice overexaggeration. Rafer takes shots that the defense gives him, which you HAVE to do. Unfortunately, the rockets have always relied on him to be more aggressive offensively than his game is built for, mostly because of the lack of other scorers.
Yes the defense gives him those shots, you know why? Because he SUCKS at shooting...they leave him open.... Rafer is like the kid at the local gym who is a good dribbler but can't shoot so no one guards him. DD
35% from 3pt is not sucky by any means. Nor is the fact that that % is higher when he actually is wide open. come on DD. Your arguments are overthetop and flat out lies...much like your arguments for vspanbeing good and jvg being bad.
Im comfortable with Rafer running the team. He proved himself to me last year. If theres a way to get a better point guard then go for it, but I don't see it as the number one issue on the team.
Donkey - Lies? Ok....try these.......LIES on for size. Shot attempts per game including playoffs Average shot attempts per game. TMac = 20.18 Yao = 15.49 Rafer = 12.46 Scola = 8.38 Battier = 7.72 What is the PG's role on the team? Shouldn't it be to get everyone a quality look? Since Rafer is a bad shooter, shouldn't he focus on getting more shots for the GOOD shooters on the team like Yao, Shane and Scola? Look, as I said, Rafer is adequate, but he has to stop shooting so much...he can NOT be taking the 3rd most shot attempts, and be such a PISS poor shooter. The guy just can not shoot....he is worse than Jason Kidd in his career average... We need the coach from "Hoosiers" to come and say to "Feel his power in the dribble"..... By the way, I am ok with Rafer, if we have another PG that can shoot, so that when Rafer is cold, he can sit......Brooks may be that guy....at least I hope so.... DD
We have two glaring weaknesses. Backup SG and Backup/Starting PG. If you don't trade any of our starting five, you only have enough trade assets (expirings, future draft picks) to entice one legitimate difference maker. Forget Brent Barry. If he comes it will be for the LLE and as a situational scorer, not a solution for backup SG. The optimum solution is to sign one guy that feels both needs. The guy that best fits that scenario is Leandro Barbosa. He would be the perfect backup SG to Tracy. Not so perfect as backup point to Rafer, but between him, Brooks, and Mcgrady occasionally it should work. I doubt we can get him without trading Scola, but Morey should give it the old college try. Any of our fodder and multiple future picks. Maybe next years first and second and either another first 3 years from now or all our picks next year (one first, 2 seconds). Who are other realistic combo guards? Hinrich? Who else?
