OK now that the MJ saga is over I have moved on.

I did really like the Warriors draft and it is coming together a little bit of late. JR was a relative no-brainer, but I thought Arenas was a great pick where they got him. Arenas has tremendous athleticism (speed, quickness, hops), good scoring instincts, and actually was the best on the ball defender last year for Arizona (yes, better than Jefferson). In fact he was AZ best player last year but he fell in that "often great college player not much a pro prospect mold" typical of guys with the body of a 1 and the game of a 2.

The key issues for Arenas I would think are 1) is his shot coming along consistently (he had solid college 3 range but was a little sporadic), and 2) more importantly, can he take more of a set up (versus) scorer mentality and will he able to handle the ball well-enough so that he can transition to the one. I have seen he is getting into games and producing in the box scores of late, how does the team, fans and coaches feel he is coming along. I guess if he can't make the 1 transition maybe he can be the next Mobley (smallish offensively explosive 2 guard), what do ya'll think of him?

You don't fool me ... you're just making nice 'cause I voted for you in the tournament. ;)

This was just a great draft overall -- there's already, what, about 20 guys who have shown they can play NBA-caliber ball? Getting a player like Arenas at #31 is a gift.

Arenas can't run a halfcourt offense, but he's not only super-fast, he's fast with the ball ... so he's great for pushing the tempo. And at 6'3 with really long arms, he could be a defensive terror against PGs. Last night was the first time he really got hot as a shooter (i.e., raining jumpers from everywhere), but it looks like he's got good form and a quick release, so I think that's a legitimate hint of the future.

I can't tell if he'll make the full transition to PG, either, but at least he looks like he'll be a helluva third guard.

It's over in the Hangout. I just found out about it a couple of days ago myself.

I got through the first round, but only because of a suspiciously high seed, which gave me a cupcake matchup. :D
