Watched the replay of the first SNL last night. I missed the first time because out friends were getting married (and oddly the same people were spending the night with us last night)

I couldn't believe how well the humor held up. Not much of it was topical it was just offbeat stuff, Chevy's update was great.

Carlin was in his gentle hippie mode and reportedly ripped on cocaine.

For those who said Carlin was too political in the final years, I think he changed a lot after his wife died in 1997. His iconoclasm turned decisively bitter. It's understandable

He would have loved that. Those guys are some kick ass publicity whores, they really have panache.

"George Carlin made a lot of money making fun of god. Now, he has to deal with God."

    Slam Dunk.

They're two steps too fringe for my tastes, i actually prefer my bigotry and hatred more subtle-like. Take it down a notch, guys - you're sooo close. the picketing. the attention mongering. the 'feel', that je ne sais quoi that you can not teach, you have all the elements there. just bring it down one or two notches, and i think it will really catch on.

I think he peaked after his iconoclasm turned decisively bitter. To me that is his best stuff. He will be missed.
