OK, she just texted me that she's feeling like Sushi. Anyone know any Unique sushi joints? Upscale? We're in the Midtown/Montrose area.
as faras upscale vietnamese, a place called Hue just opened on Kirby that i've heard pretty good things about. nobody been? as far as standard vietnamese, i still love Mai's.
I'll check Hue out - Mai's is good when drunk but otherwise not so much. Vietnamese people have told me that Mai's is to Vietnamese food what a roadside taco stand is to food as a whole.
if you keep it simple, and don't get too adverturous, it's good. solid pho, great spring rolls, and it's pretty hard to f' up vermicelli bowls. also, while i obviously don't know what's going on in the kitchen, Mai's at least maintains the appearance of cleanliness in the dining area, which is a big plus for me. a good amount of vietnamese restaurants in the area that i've been too just look and feel filthy to me, which prohibits me from enjoying my meal no matter how good the food is. what are some vietnamese joints that you guys go to?
Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but y'all HAVE to try the Vietnamese egg rolls at Hollywood on Montrose. Those things are insanely good and unlike any other egg roll you've had before. And, no. I'm not talking about a stupid spring roll.
I went to The Grove last week. It is downtown, across the street from the Hilton Americas. It was pretty good, and I think it'd make a good date joint because you could walk around Discovery Green before or after.
Sheik Chili is the grossest place you can take a date. Infact after you take her there you will be single again and you and her will most likely have the runs.
No - it's brand new but I've heard nothing but good things. I mean, besides Osaka & Fish I can't think of another upscale sushi place around this area. Well there is a new one on Memorial near the Biba's & Otto's BBQ but I can't recall its name.
