I didn't want to start a new Joey Dorsey thread but with people comparing him to players such as Ben Wallace, Bo Outlaw, a poor-mans Otis Thorpe, broke-mans Barkley etc I had to make my own comparison. This guy reminds me very much of Jason Maxiell. They are about the same size 6'7 260+ with super long arms, good defenders and athletic. Maxiell was man-handling the likes of KG, Tyson Chandler etc in the reg season although those guys had 5+ inches on him. In addition they were picked pretty close to each other in their respective drafts 26th and 33rd. I'm very hopeful that Dorsey can be productive as a Rocket and put up similar numbers in his first year as Maxiell did this past year (8ppg 5 rpg 1 bpg) if he's given all of Chuck Hayes minutes + minutes when Yao needs a breather. Scola and Landry are great but we always wanted that true "enforcer" next to Yao and if anybody is going to be that it's JD. Nice job Morey.
*JUMPED* No way, his style is so different from Drexler. JoDo's only offensive move is dunk and he is a very defensive focused guy. If you still want to compare him to someone really good, I would say he is a beggar's version of Amare Stoudamire.
some people are comparing him to ben wallace. I think he runs the floor much better than ben wallace, and more agile from the little ive seen on him.
maxiell can shoot out to 18 ft, he can score, while as far as we know, dorsey as no offensive game. but physically they are similar.
HUH?!? That doesn't even deserve to be jumped..... You're comparing Joey Dorsey, a PF/C, to one of the best wings in NBA history???????? WUT???
Mason had a lot more offense to his game than Dorsey. He also deserved his sole All-Star Game appearance despite not scoring a single point in that game.
Yah, Mason could dribble the ball like a guard, and had some post moves. And he also couldn't jump like Dorsey.
His play is most likely gonna be like Ben Wallace in the NBA with more scoring? That's what I'm hoping for.. Nothing to far fetched.
