You might get him for even less than that. All the Nets want is money and expirings before 2010. I'm a secondary Nets fan haha, they've been planning this since Ratner and team Brooklyn bought the Nets.
to tell the truth... I think if you can get VC without trading Yao, tmac, or Scola then it is a steal but they let the bucks steal RJ so who knows.
The Nets would be happy to rid themselves of VC's contract, needing that cap space to help get LeBron in 2 years. They might nab Bron anyway with the cap space made available by RJ's departure, but it's a tougher sales job for Jay-Z to pair LeBron with a declining VC. Best to just see if you can move him now and sign another good player or two to add with Bron. If you look at VC's numbers last year, you can't complain. I think he averaged nearly 5 assists. The problems are: being stuck with his last two years, when he won't be able to fight his decline; AND just how hard will he bring it? Ever look at his facial expression on the court? A la Chris Webber's "I don't really want to be here"? Put that with TMac's body language, which sometimes says the same thing, and you'll either have an expensive problem....or they'll inspire each other to not suck.
He would be big in Houston....remember that when he came to NJ he lit it up. He needs a change in scenery again. The only problem is that his contract is so big that we would have to offer a good amount of players to get him He makes 13 million and I would not want to give up Shane Battier to get him. Bjax + Luther + Chuck hayes + 5 more million in cash i guess i dont know for Vince Carter
The 2 rookies cousins took a bad toronto team to the playoffs by themselves in their 1st 2 years, get on it morey!@
I feel that he isn't mentally tough. He doesn't play much defense and also settles in for jumpers most of the time.He can take the ball to the basket, but I'm not sure he will do it when we need him to. Tracy is a more talented VC with better passing, handles and somewhat better defense.
Ray Allen isn't mentally tough either. We need Vince. Get it done Morey! I don't know how, but get him.
I'd look at Milwaikee. Richard Jeffersen primarily plays SF but he can also cover SG. They don't really need Desmond Mason who's also an expiring contract. I'd try to offer Bobby Jackson for Mason. Bobby's another combo guard at the point but he brings D and depth which they lack. However I were looking for a bigger splash, ie a very unlikely scenario. If it were between youth or Vince I'd prefer to gamble on youth to win... A simultaneous trade involving Battier, Brooks, and Landry (S&T) for Mason, Sessions (expiring), and the draft rights to Alexander. Biggest knock on the Bucks last season were their no show on defense. Buck's weak frontcourt suddenly catches up with their backcourt.
But if they get Carter, then T-mac and VC can just take turns mailing it in every other game, and we'll still be fine. That is basically what the Celtics did all year. Most of the time only two of the big three played well, and when you have 3 good/somewhat-great players, you have that luxury. Right now with the Rockets, if either Yao or McGrady mails it in a lot of other things have to go right to win, especially against a good team. I don't see why people don't realize this.
hooroo, I must say your B-Jax for Mason proposal is both fair and realistic. It's definitely not the home run caliber kind of deal some of us are hoping for but Mason does provide some 2/3 size and athleticism off the bench. Definitely somebody i'd rather have than B-Jax. I don't like the other scenario nor would Milwaukee but I like your resourcefulness. Honestly, i'm torn on whether to stand pat with our current group or to explore other options. One part of me realizes this same group won 55 games playing half of the season without Yao, meanwhile the other part of me knows that we need to bolster the starting line up somehow. Simply stated: between Rafer and Battier one of those two can no longer start. Your B-Jax/Mason suggestion makes a ton of sense if we choose the stand pat approach. Despite his reliance on his athleticism, Mason is a still a good player that we could try to utilize off the bench. If it works out, great. If it doesn't we still have the expiring contract chip to play with in February. After signing Landry with part of the MLE, we might be able to snag a Maurice Evans type or somebody like that with the remaining MLE then roll into next season with essentially the same rotation. The stand pat with minor tweaks approach is the safest route to choose, no doubt. But still, if you came up to me and told me we could get Vince Carter for B-Jax/Battier or something along those lines I still think you have to take that deal.
I wonder if trading them 2 non-consecutive 1st rd picks along with expirings and either Brooks or Landry is enough to get him? I am willing to do it if it means retaining Battier. Thats a championship acquisition, assuming we keep Battier.
Or Luther Head instead of the 2nd. We would miss Battier defense, sure. We would then use some of our MLE for a back-up swingman. Pietrus (most of the MLE), (Part of the MLE to LLE...) Evans, Hayes, Barnes, Brown, Giricek, James Jones, etc.
